With what I put in for this year and in past years I don't worry about coming up dry.  I have a guaranteed deer tag in Utah and usually buy a spike bull tag over there.  Then for Colorado I should draw a deer tag this year I hope since I put in for 4 choices and then I'll be able to pick up a OTC either sex elk tag for archery.  That along with a cow tag for a later season here and I am set.  I still have to send in my application for Arizona for deer this month and if I draw that tag I could be hunting from mid August until late November.  My biggest problem is watching what I am putting in for anymore.  I had to move a LE deer hunt in Utah out to possibly next year since I'll draw a great antelope tag here in Colorado this year since the seasons over lapped a little. 

But then if nothing else I'll just grab my shotgun and head after some grouse while others are hunting deer and elk. 

I always buy one or two leftover elk tags here in Colorado, then deer if I don't draw my preferred units.  In Wyoming I'll pick up some leftover antelope tags, and have in the past bought leftover deer tags.

i really want a mule deer tag this year, i could have drawn in wyoming, but i just don't want to try after hunting the unit adjascent to there last year. i hunted hard for a week, and only stirred up about 15 does and spikes. several years before i could go out and see that many in one wash out.

i'm actually looking forward to trying to hunt colorado though. i'd just really like to go after muleys... but if i have to hunt elk... darn.

I have almost a month till the results are out in most of the states I put in for. I should draw Wyoming antelope for sure and then pick up some leftover doe tags to go with my either sex. Here in Colorado even if I don't get my buck tag I should still have a chance for a doe leftover close to home. And of course there is always plenty of elk tags to be found.

I will be hunting Texas again this fall and it's an Otc tag there so I know I'll get to hunt a buck down there.

I think I might even cry if I didn't have at least one buck tag for somewhere.

In Colorado, for mule deer bucks expect this for a leftover list for public land tags, a few more options with archery and muzzleloader leftovers, but this is just for rifle:

If i don't draw the tag i want, i just go to CO. and get a OTC elk tag.

I will just put down my local hunts so if (when) my premium hunts don't get drawn, I have my tags already in hand for the regular season.

i guess i'm fortunate enough to live in a state where i'm guaranteed tags for three species of game, but they are all archery tags, and kansas does not have very much public land that holds mule deer or antelope.

i just really want to be out and camp for a few weeks, hunt hard and experience nature the way i think it was meant to be enjoyed. away from the hum of combustion engines, factories and the neighbors dog barking at 2 am. it seems like a waste of a season if i don't get my "me" time in the mountains.

but i will check on those units for colorado excess deer. i would be more than happy with an average 4x4 or good 3x3, so... i have standards, but not high ones.

i may even try an archery antelope hunt here in kansas with some of the guys from work. the problem, is that antelope cross property boundaries pretty fast here, so you have to talk to lots of farmers.

at least i found a few antelope this year, but i hunt with a recurve, so they're going to be tough to knock down.
