At 12 years old my little sis took her first deer and antelope with an -06,she never complained about recoil, she moved up to a 7mag about 5 years ago and Ive never heard a word about it,I gaurantee you she wants to kill game ALOT more than most people in the field, she has the hunter instinct. If you cant handle the recoil of a rifle that is appropriate for the game you intend to hunt, maybe you should take up golf?

243 is a great deer gun but i would not use it on an elk a not so good placed shot is a wounded animal just ain't worth it.

Look, if you can shoot it good you'll have no problem. Put the bullet where it is supposed to go and you'll have a dead elk. Don't let these supermagnum days of hunting get the best of you. the 243 has killed alot of game and is perfectly capable of doing what you need it to.

True 243 is a great gun but you just need to place your shoot real good everytime it is the least you need to use on elk.

You can't place a perfect shot every time. Too many conditions. You have wind, uphill and downhill slopes, ranging errors, animal moves, and you are shooting from hunting positions ie.; standing, kneeling, sitting. It's not bench shooting. The average Joe isn't going to do that every time and most people that think they can have an ego problem. You don't have to be off by much and the big bulls are tougher than the cows. You hit a big boy in the shoulder with a 243 you're most likely in for a very long tracking job. Seen it too many times. Shame on You!
