What are the chances?

First of all, I'm going nuts here at work waiting for Sept 1 to get here so I can go on my first elk hunt. I'm thinking about all the things I have and what else I might need or what I have forgotten. In all this thinking Think Think Think I start to wonder what my chances are on actually getting within bow range of an elk (cow or bull, I DON'T care) and taking some elk meat home with me. I kind of already now the answer but I'm going to ask anyway eye roll . I will be hunting Co. in zones 25 and 26. I am using an outfitter and will be on a guided hunt. So, you guys that have done this elk hunting thing for a while ,how real are my chances of getting an elk. I know there are about a million variables but I still curious what you think.

Thanks for humoring me here.

I'd say that going with an outfitter, you've upped your odds to somewhere in the 30-50% range. So at best, 50:50 to actually come home with an elk. But I don't bowhunt much.

Thanks!

I don't hunt the bow season but, have been going 2nd rifle season for going on 13 years now and it has been to my esperiance is that you get out of the hunt what you put into it. If you spend all your time in camp and wnat to be lazy about it you can expect very little but, if you get out and hunt hard I cannot beleive that you will not have an opportunity at a shot.
Like I said this will be my 13th year and I hnut with a group that ranges from 6 to 12 and our running percentage over the years for our camp is 76% and I can't remember a year that not everyone has not had an opportunity. They may of blew the shot or weren't ready to take the shot but they did have a chance. My recomendation is get in shape and be willing to put the miles on the boots and go into places that make you shake your head and wonder what the hell you are doing there. Thats where all the smart elk will be.
