Were exactly can i hunt with a Rifle in Southwestern Ontario ( I live in Brantford, Ontario)

Hellow, Fellow hunters

I'm Waiting to take my H1 course (and turkey), was looking at hunting seasons and regulations, Hunting boundaries ect. I can't seem to find any areas that allow rifle? Can someone that lives in ontario help me out here I can definitely drive farther than Brantford but I would like to stay with in the 3-4 (or less) hours driving range n,s,e,w. So before i buy a rifle i definitely need to know if im even going to be able to use it around here because all the seasons i can find around here are bow/shotgun/muzzle loading. Im using a bolt action .300 win mag (or atleast want to)

If there are no areas withing 3-4 hours n,s,e,w of my location (Brantford ontario) than how far do i have to drive to use a rifle for Deer hunting?

Sincerely.

Chris.

I'm going out on a limb here

I'm going out on a limb here as I've never hunted there. But looking at the regs it looks like if you get away from populated areas a bit like unit 53a or 56 you can draw a tag that a rifle can be used. The archery only seasoin is far far longer but you will notice it's closed from something like November 5th to the 17th or close to that. Then if you look at the special draw it shows a season open at that time with no restrictions listed, I believe that would be your rifle hunt and falls within 3 hours of where you live.

The southwestern part confused me as you live on the eastern side of Ontario but I see that's how it's listed in the regs. I would have considered that south eastern from here but not by your book.

There are other units listed in that area as well but I only looked at those 2 for reference due to distance and lower human density.

Hope that helps but I believe with a little homework you can get it done. I only looked at deer also but I'm sure there are other animals such as bear in the area.

I enjoy sorting out new places and putting hunts together. The only other thing I have no idea about is your public or private land situation as that can play a huge role down here as well.

Good luck with your hunting quest, it'll be worth it when you get it all sorted out. I'm sure your classes will provide more usefull information when you take them.

Thanks hunter

Yea that about a 3/4 hour drive. My old cottage was just near Parry Sound there. I really didn't think that there was so many areas that u couldn't use a rifle :( thats a huge bummer. But i was kind of thinking the same thing about the hunting course. If they can't give me a good answer im lost in the woods in this one. Dont get me wrong i would love to compound bow hunt but im a huge rifle fanatic.

Here is Our link to hunting regulations For 2012-2013

http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/stdprodconsume/groups/lr/@mnr/@fw/documents/document/239849.pdf

Page 66 (bottom left hand of each page) explains the Conditions (Restrictions Only)

Now dumb question here but below this chart were it says Conditions (Restrictions Only) is says: bows, Muzzleloaders, shotguns

For areas

64B, 68B, 69B, 74A Nov. 5 to Nov. 18 Nov. 5 to Nov. 18:Bows, shotguns and muzzle-loading guns only
82A, 82B, 83A, 84: Nov. 5 to Nov. 10 Nov. 5 to Nov. 10 :No dogs
82A, 82B, 83A, 84: Dec. 3 to Dec. 8 Dec. 3 to Dec. 8 Bows and muzzle-loading guns only; no dogs
82B: Nov. 19 to Nov. 24 Nov. 19 to Nov. 24 Bows and muzzle-loading guns only; no dogs

Does this mean i Cannot use these or these are Restricted from using on these dates?

Thanks again, Hunter25

other way around

64B, 68B, 69B, 74A Nov. 5 to Nov. 18 Nov. 5 to Nov. 18:Bows, shotguns and muzzle-loading guns only

I live in 64B and rifle hunt (when I hunt in Ont) in 63B. Means that in those zones ONLY bows, shot guns and muzzle-loading guns may be used.
