Went Fishing

Went fishing this last weekend with my wife and a friend.  It was a good reminder of how much I enjoy fishing.  The last couple times I went fishing, the lakes I went to felt crowded, and I couldn't even get a crawdad or sucker fish to mess with my line.  This time, we did not start fishing until 1:00pm, and we were still limited out, packed up, and leaving the parking lot by 4:30pm.  Besides limiting out in short order, there were only a couple other people at the lake, and they were fairly well behaved (not too loud, respectfully kept their distance, etc.)  We only caught stocker-sized rainbow trout, but it was a great time.  Even though we didn't catch any large fish, we will still have plenty to eat later this week when I cook them up.  As an added bonus, since it was Colorado's fish for free weekend, we did not have to buy a fishing license for my wife and friend.

I did purchase a new baitcaster reel for this trip.  Turns out I should have read the manual before simply trying to cast it for the first time.  Now I have a tangled mess that I will have to completely re-spool the line, tune the reel, and then see if I am smart enough to cast with it.

Anyway, it was good to get out there.  Already looking forward to a couple more fishing trips this summer.  Anybody else made it out fishing?  How did your trip go?

Nice looking lake and glad

Nice looking lake and glad you had fun. Me, my wife and some friends hit Blue Mesa this weekend and had a ball. We ended up with 20 Kokes, 6 browns and 4 rainbows all running 14-18.5 inches. I understand what you mean about the crowds but there still are plenty of good places to fish away from the crowds and if you have a boat you have even more options. We will be back out on big blue the weekend of 16-17 June. No better way to spend Fathers Day than fishing if you ask me. Sorry no pictures to post this time.

Sounds like you had a great

Sounds like you had a great fishing trip!  Lots of fish, and definitely bigger than what we were catching.

We smoked up and ate half our fish from this trip this week.  Melted butter, garlic salt, and alder wood.  Yummy!  Yes

Good luck on Father's Day weekend.  That is coming up in a hurry!

Nice!!!

That's a serious stringer from the previous trip. I completely agree with you that a good trip is about more than just catching. My fav lake here isn't known for being a top producer, which means less pressure which means a better trip which makes it my favourite.

My "real" fishing trip is coming up 23 Jun - 7 Jul...stayed tuned

I need to go fishing some

I need to go fishing some this year. Haven't done much in the past couple years. What lake is that? I lived in Brighton a few years and don't recall a lake that nice around there.

I haven't found a lake that

I haven't found a lake that nice around Brighton either, so I drove quite a ways up the Poudre.  It is one of the many Lost Lakes in Colorado.
