Can anyone explain how the weghted point system works in colorado. I thought that for each weighted point you had that your name was entered into the drawing an additional time. However, I have heard that this is not the case. Thanks

They had Hybrid Draw for the
They had Hybrid Draw for the 2010 season but I have no idea if they will have it for the 2011 season.
The way that worked was hunters with five or more elk or deer preference points that selected as their first choice a unit that needed 10 or more resident points were put into a hybrid draw for that animal. Now, you needed at least 5 points to be inclueded in the hybrid draw. So if you wanted to put in for a unit that took 12 points but you only had 6 you could put in for that unit but only 20% of the tags for that unit were available for the hybrid draw. Confusing hu?
Now if you are talking about moose, sheep, or goats then it is different. You need a miminum 3 preference points to get into the draw for those animals and if you didn't draw you didn't get any more preference points but were assigned a bouns point. So if you were putting in for a moose permit for 10 years you would have 7 additional chances to draw that tag. Where as a person that had been putting in for 7 years would have an additional 4 chances to draw that tag but could draw before the one that had been putting in for 10 years.
Now are you really confused?

I was referring to th moose
I was referring to th moose and sheep because I have 10 weighted for moose and a bunch for sheep as well. The unfortunate flaw in the system is the fact that my dad has also been appling for 17 years for a cow and hasn't drawn yet. I can understand why I haven't drawn a bull but 17 years and still no cow license is getting him a little frustrated. Thanks for the help

I guess I should be more
I guess I should be more specific. I understood it to be exactly the way that Critter described it but I was informed that the computer assigns you a random number and that number is then divided by the number of weighted points that you have and licenses are assigned to the lowest numbers. So yes critter I am confused

The way that I understand it
The way that I understand it for moose is that for every bouns point that you have over 3 is that the computer assignes a number and then that number goes into the draw. So if you have 7 bonus points you have that many extra chances of drawing a tag. The only problem with it is that a person that only has one bonus point can draw the tag where you with 7 will come up empty.

Ok CVC it is time for you to turn off the computer and or blackberry. Then step away from them and repeat to yourself, "I am not obcessed with this contest" "I am not obcessed with this contest" "I am not obcessed with this contest" a number of times. Then get outside and enjoy this beautiful fall weather for a little while without worring about it.

Yep, i will be away from it
Yep, i will be away from it for a while. Going to have lunch at a Chinese buffet with one of my hunting buddies. Ate a light breakfast so I could get my money's worth today. Will be a good lunch with hunting talk. Will have to talk about the contest....so i won't totally be away from it.
Maybe when I get back there will be some good posts going. Kind of picked through now with some pitiful ones that are thinly veiled attempts to get points as opposed to stir discussion. So post away everyone.
