Web Site/Forum Question

There is a thing with the forums that has been bugging me for a while now and I do not know how others like it the way that it is working.

I just returned after being gone for 2 weeks and found all kinds of new threads and questions and comments on others.  What I find annoying is that when I find a thread that I am interested in and it has more than 1 new reply in a thread you usually have to go looking for the second new reply in it.  When somebody replies to a comment that poster 7 said the comment goes right below that comment.  Then when somebody replies to a comment that poster 15 said the comment goes right below that comment and you have to go looking for the second reply.  Also if you quote a comment it does the same thing.  I found a couple of threads that had several new replies and without reading the whole thread I doubt that I got them all.

So what I am asking and I am not sure how others feel but would it be possible to do away with the "Reply" to a comment but let them quote it, and if they "Quote" a comment for it to show up at the end of all the post before it at the end of the thread.  I know that a lot of the other forums that I visit use this type of system and it seams to work without the confusion.

Thanks for listing to my gripe.

thread formatting

Spoke with our programmer and there does not seem to be an easy way to change or undo the way the threads are formatted right now. We're looking into the possibility of removing the reply to button by each post. Would like to hear a bit more feedback from our members before making a big change.

This new formatting was a conscious decision we made when BGH was upgraded and we thought that visitors might like having the ability to comment directly to a specific post.

When I scan a thread, I quickly glance at the dates - and yes we understand it's easy to miss new posts with this setup.

Thanks for the feedback critter!

I'm on one other good website

I'm on one other good website that has it both ways, but I really hate it when I see a thread I'm involved with that is showing a new comment and have to go hunting for it when it isn't right at the end of the thread.  I remember getting chastized here when I first joined for a comment I made when a member here did what I referred to as "hiding" a comment in the middle of a thread and did I get clobbered with posts saying I was off base and it was a normal procedure on this site.  I orefer only being able to add a post at the end of a thread if you're asking for votes one way or the other.

Thanks for your response.  I

Thanks for your response.

I personally believe that getting rid of the "Reply" link would be a step in the right direction.  If a poster wants to reply to a specific question or answer he can quote it and let it show up at the end of the thread.

I personally believe that it would flow better this way.

  I also think the solution

I also think the solution of removing the single reply to option on each post is good idea.  When seeing multiple responses I find myself paging up to re-review all posts from the start to ensure I am not missing a response to any post.  And I feel "quoting" will be an easy to learn solution for the forum.  Just my $0.02 worth!
