Ok Now THAT one looks a lot more like it... And yeah I think it was a fairly young bull. I think he said it was 7 or so. DOnt know if thats really young or not in the buff world. I know its about right with Bison to be a mature yet still young bull but I aint no african expert. And hell if the cape tastes anything like that buff I shot, Id pity anyone that ate it Yuk! as that was some N A S T Y eatin. Had an acrid taste to it. Kinna like if you had allowed the juices from the scent glands in a deer leak into the meat if you know what I mean. I mean it took gamey to a whole new level.

hopefully this picture will come thru, it is the water buffalo cow i shot here in texas, just the mount. and yes, i did it myself neener! i cannot seem to find a picture of the whole buffalo on the computer. i added the big cape buffalo for comparison. the cow took a 270 gr hornady in .376 in the chest, went down, got up, took two more in the side, then a final one in the neck. the cape took a 300 grain federal nosler partition soft at the base of the neck at 120 yards. a 300 gr federal sledgehammer solid in the left butt, ending up in the left chest, between two ribs, and a final 300 gr soft in the spine after going down. both seemed tough to me. the cow was very tough to eat as noted before. thanks for the site post, by the way. i will look them up.

actually, the stippled portion at the top of the skull in my picture is the back of the head. i cut off the dome of the skull to minimize cleaning chores.

I did a Water Buffalo hunt at Brady Ranch in Florida in 2005. I took a 1800 Lb water Buffalo with a single shot from my Encore in 416 Rigby with a 300 gr. Barns X Bullet.

We did a spot and stalk through the palm meadows and I took a 135 yards shot at the one I got. It was a great time, while we were stalking the heard of Buffalo, they were in the palm meadow thicket with us, we could not see them, but we could hear them, we would catch a glimpse of them off and on.

They finally made there way out into an open field and the one I was after spun around a started looking at us, the guide told me, he may charge us, I waited a few seconds and I got the opportunity to take the shot and I took it. The buffalo stood there, but you could tell he was hit good, blood was coming out of it's nostrils and blowing all over the place, I loaded another round and just held my gun on him, about 20 seconds passed and he fell over dead. Thumbs up

redhawk1,
That sounds like a great time! I am planning on going after a water buffalo somewhere here in the SE in the next few months. Do you have any pictures of the buffalo or of the mount you had done? They make some good looking mounts as well.
