Kinda depends on where you live and what you are willing to do for a bear.
Most of the Eastern units are great. On the westside take a look at the two new units this year and look at Kapowsin for less competition.

The only thing about the kapowison unit is the land use permit $300 so if thats something you may consider, also I have talked to more than a few guys who hunt bear quite abit and several have said that even hunting everyday for spring bear they never even saw a single bear.

I agree. Spring bear hunting is not easy. I have had two permits and only killed one bear. I did see and miss another the second year, but sometimes you only get one chance.

This will be my first year going after bear. I applied for a spring permit also. It sounds like my odds are much better with the fall hunt. I will be using a .270 Win with 130 gr Barnes Triple Shock X-Bullet. Any thoughts?

What spring units? I think the Monroe and Skagit units will be tough draws, but should be very productive for those lucky few.

I have killed a few bears with 130grn out of my .270, but if you are going to use that rifle I would suggest moving up to 150 grns. Make the first shot count with a double lung hit and you will be fine.

LOL You had the two I applied for. Skagit was my first choice and Monroe was my second. I also have 150 gr Nosler Patitions in 270 Win. Is that a better choice?

Either of the bullets yo mentioned should be enough. The secret to killing is using a bullet that will get inside, both of those will do.

The 150's will do the job.
