Wash Muzzleloader

Have been invited to a private Ranch in NE Washington to try muzzleloader hunting for Whitetail and Elk. The Ranch is on an either sex area but I would rather shoot a buck and/or bull. What type of muzzleloader would You suggest I buy for a biginner?/ Have hunted with rifle for 50 years and want to try something different.

Thanks

Do you want to go the way of traditional ML or do you want someting that acts like a single shot cartrige gun.
If traditional is your way to go my meening of traditional is a side lock in either flint or percusion cap ,than I would go for a Traditions Great plains riffle in cap lock .54. Good riffle for the money and wont bereak the bank. They come with a 1:60 twist which is good for patched Round ball and acurate out to 100-150 yards if you do your part.
- working up a load
-finding the right patch ball combo ect.
Mine works great with a .020 patch .530 ball and 75 grns of Goex real black powder. it will clover leaf at 50 yards and stay within 4 inches at 100.
Have fun Regards Fisher King

Thanks Fisher King. Have a new 54 Cal Cap lock. Here in washington Cap must be open to the atmosphere and lead projectiles only. I have decided on 100 grains of powder and a 348 grain hollow point. Shooting a 2 inch group at 100 yds with the optic open sights so am feeling pretty confident. The right shot placement should bring down a deer or an elk, and they open same day a week from Sat, so time will tell.
