Wanting 2 hunt Barbary Sheep around the Roswell/Ruidoso area

I've been interested in hunting barbary sheep in NM units 34/36 but i don't know a whole lot about them. i've heard that its a challenge. Any information about good spots to find them at would be appreciated! RoD

I just talked to a guy about some antelope hunts near that area and his website shows he has barbary sheep in the area you are looking for.
That's all i know.

i havent hunted them in 34 or 36 but i know guys that have. in unit 34 they hunt on and around the mountain overlooking Alamogordo. in unit 36 they hunt between the Hondo Valley and the north face of the Capitan mts. with more success around the Hondo Valley. in unit 36 there is a lot of private land and you have to be careful and know where your at. i know for a fact that around the Queens area of the Guadelupe mts, there are a butload of barberys but you better be willing to quarter your game and pack it out. the terrain is very rugged there. if you have a mule you might want to have it on stand by in case you down one in one of those deep canyons.

It's a little further than the areas you mentioned, but you may want to check out unit 30 near carlsbad. Of course it's going to be draw only this season, but there's high sheep populations and some really good rams if you are willing to put in some effort, and I've not experienced much hunting pressure.

I went out west of roswell between there and ruidoso. I liked the area and walked my tail off looking for these sheep. I did in fact see some but at a distance too far. Every hunter I spoke to in the area said a few sheep have been pulled from the area. I guess the sheep scattered off on the opening weekend of the hunt. A buddy of mine got lucky and happened to find a ram 150 yards off the road under a cactus. The ram didn't seem to spooked. I'm interested in putting in on the draw for next year and trying out the carlsbad area.

you might check diamond A ranch -they have a lot-i don't know the rates for hunts but they may have some for non-trophy animals.
