I don't understand why this is a problem.
It doesn't seem like it would be any inconvenience for the buyer, unless he has used a Walmart gun in a crime before. I'm alright with videotape and background checks for employees. It doesn't affect me.

Don't worry. Walmart has been planning to get out of the gun business and I have heard that they will no longer sell firearms by the end of this year anyway. I was told by a sportinggoods department manager at a local walmart that none of the newly built stores are selling firearms, and all the existing stores are slowly selling off all inventory.

So if you buy a gun from Wal Mart and someone steals it from you and commits a crime with it, they'll prohibit you from future purchases? So it's your fault?

Mark my words -- since the gun banners have been unable to take away your 2nd Amendment rights via legislative or judicial procecesses, they're going to shift tactics and go after it in a way that isn't hampered by pesky things like constitutional rights. They'll go after private business. That way, you'll still have the right to own all the guns you can buy -- but you won't be able to buy one because no business will want to deal with all the hassle of selling them.

The constitution guarantees the right of the people to keep and bear arms; it doesn' t guarantee the right of businesses to sell them. Gun banners will now attack the supply side and pursue their goal via public relations pressure and regulation. The more dealers they push out of the business, the less availability there'll be and the higher the cost for consumers. Once they've driven the price of firearms and ammunition through the roof, they will have effectively disarmed the lower class they claim to care so much about. This will, of course, lead to an increase in crime in lower-income areas, as well as increasing firearm thefts. Once that happens, they can exploit the media circus and demand more restrictions on owners.

Maybe that's walmart's intent. To do whatever it takes to ensure that shooters and gun owners don't buy guns, especially from them.

I think it's interesting that the left is trying to make gun shops the equivalent of what porn shops used to be considered -- dirty, hidden away places frequented by people of questionable morals. You've got to get gun sales out of mainstream areas in order to marginalize those who frequent them. Push sportsmen to the fringes, and they're easier to attack.

It's sort of the reverse of the process they're using to take a lot of behaviors out of the fringes and bring them into the mainstream to normalize them.

The battle is for the huge number of Americans in the middle of the bell curve that don't have a strong opinion one way or another but will just go with the flow of conventional wisdom. If an activity is something they see on a regular basis, they deem it part of "normal" America and part of the mainstream they like to think they represent. But if they don't see it, they think it must be out on the fringes and therefore suspect.

Here is the response they're sending back to people:

Wal-Mart understands its role as a leading, responsible retailer in the U.S.
and is making strides to strengthen its already existing security processes
to help combat illegal gun activity in the communities we serve. Wal-Mart
has a long and proud history of offering the products hunters and
outdoorsmen want and need and that will not change.

It is important to note that these procedures should not impede law-abiding
citizens from purchasing firearms at our stores that sell them. These
processes merely provide us, as a retailer, an additional mechanism to
assist law enforcement when illegal activity occurs.

We are hopeful these enhanced processes with help from law enforcement and other retailers committing to do the same can make a positive difference
in our communities.

Thank you,
Wal-Mart Customer Relations

Did anyone else get this same response? By the way, I'm not impressed and I also let them know that it doesn't change my mind.

In other words, you're too ignorant to see the wisdom in what we're doing. We're sorry you don't have the capacity to understand why we're doing this, because if you did, you'd realize how good this is for you and that you don't have a thing to worry about as long as you keep your nose clean.

We're Wal Mart: we know what you need more than you do.

I'm trying to follow this as best I can, and without upsetting anyone, isn't it up to Walmart to decide how and by what means they wish to record firearm sales and if You don't like it go elsewhere. Plain & Simple Think
