Waiting for Open Water

The ice is finally beginning to break up in the rivers that flow into Saginaw Bay. Since it is getting unsafe to walk on, I'm hoping it breaks up soon and the waters open up on the Bay itself. Then we can get out and start trolling again for those delicious walleye that the Bay has become known for.

Here is a picture of a 3-man limit that we got last June.

These fish ranged from 16 to 23 inches in length. Minimum legal size is 15 inches.

It won't be long till some of

It won't be long till some of our lakes start to open up here but quite yet. My friend caught a 30" pike through the ice just last week. My first fishing for the year will probably be in some of the small creeks for brookies while waiting for the bigger lakes to thaw. The Colorado river is always open but I've never really fished it.

Only caught 2 perch on the last trip out before I put my boat away last year. Not to good.Lol My boat's an 08 but the starter went out so we were done for the day.

I bought my boat for lake Powell in Utah otherwise I would have never needed one so big for the fishing I do here at home.

You mean to say that your boat is too big for a nice pond like Harvey Gap?  lol

March and April is the get ready time for me.  I stock up on minnows that I can catch in the local ponds once I can get my trap into them to get ready for summer.

Harvey is where my friend

Harvey is where my friend caught the pike last week and I used to love to fish there. But they barely let you slow down when driving by with a 115hp motor on the back let alone put it in the lake. We even got harassed a few years ago for having a 25 on the old boat because the limit was 20.

I fish Rifle a little but don't like so many people on the lake. Mostly I go up to Reudi, don't care for trout fishing as much but at least it is very peaceful midweek.

There's a tasty-looking shot right there. We spent the weekend trying for Lakers in a downpour/blizzard. Nadda. We'll be on safe ice around here for another 2 weeks at least.

That's a nice haul Jaybe!

I love Walleye.  One of the best tasting fish out there.

Don't see it much, if at all, on any menus here in California.

Last time I had any was on a trip to Wisconsin a few years back.  Yum!
