Wabbits

I got tired of sitting around this last weekend so I called a buddy to see if he wanted to head out to the hills and find some bunny rabbits.  So off we went.  The hunting wasn't as good as we have had it at times but it wasn't bad for three of us.  That and we ended up with some good eating.

There is a bench above my house that we go into.  The nice thing is that this year we don't have that much snow up there and you can still get a truck into it.  Usually there is 3' or so of snow and you have to leave the rabbits alone.

Very nice Critter!  That was always one of my favorite things to do.

Do you guys use dogs or beat the brush?  I have done it both ways, but it was always fun just busting the brush.  We'd search for tracks, follow them to a blowdown or other deadfall where they may be held up, and then I would go jumping up and down on top of it, trying to flush it out.... lol

Probably not the safest thing to do with a loaded shotgun, but it was fun..... Wink

We do a spot and stalk on

We do a spot and stalk on them.  The area that I hunt rabbits in is around 20 acres in size and is comprised of buck brush, cedars, and pinion trees.  It usually takes around 2 or 3 hours to make a loop through it and each hunter will head in their own direction.  The nice thing about it is that it is right next to the area that I hunt elk in so there isn't too much in that area that I don't know about unless we drop down into one of the deep canyons that run down toward the Eagle River next to the confluence of the Colorado River.

I love to chase rabbits but

I love to chase rabbits but have not had a good hunt in years.

My family spent a whole day up by Maybell last year and only got one each.

It was a lot of fun but the numbers were way down from a few years back.
