Go for the big boy

You may want to use that red fox or coon urine a couple times before you hunt , just in case it would be a surprise to them. Don't know for sure if that is good advice or not. What do you guys think?

I sprayed fox urine on the sides and bottoms of my rubber boots the last two weeks that I baited. I made sure that it got around my bait site and I climbed up into my stand and got it on the steps and platform. To be honest, I am not sure that there was any effect? I agree with you Red that if they are going to use the cover scent it should be introduced early to the site so the first time the bears smell it is not the first day of hunting.

You know your daughter better than anyone else here but if it was me.... I would continue to bait the other two cribs (not a lot just enough food to keep them coming around) every day that you are hunting. I would at the same time be going after Kong (this is also not my first bear.... this is where knowing your daughter kicks in, would she rather hunt the big one and possibily not get anything at all or is getting a bear no matter what size more important???). If after 4 days or so if Ol, Kong isnt showing his face then regroup and possibly make a move to one of the other two that is getting hit reg.
The main thing is keep it simple and have a good time we all are keeping our fingers crossed for her.

Hunt for Kong if possible and if not, one of the others.
And there are 2 or 3 other larger bear out there also.

Hey Blackie...just remember too. A bear with a track measuring 8" long let alone a track measuring 9 1/2" long are very nice bears. Like everyone has said..give it a couple days on Kong and then personally I would settle for one of the "SMALLER" ones for a 1st bear. Just my 2 cents worth......Good Luck

Kristina wanted to hunt that north crib this morning (bears had been coming in the morning), I had moved the crib back 30 yds back in that thick stuff, (actually built a new crib little smaller) then I put out one stand, Kristina sat in the stand and I was inside of dead falls about 20 yds away, We sat out from day light until noon, she was so cold, I made her come back in to get some hot food and add more clothes. We are going out to Kongs crib at 3:00, she will be in a pop-up and I'll be in the tree. Wish her luck.
