Vote: 7mm Rem Mag, 300 WSM, 300 Win Mag or 270 WSM?

Looking for one rifle to do my longer range big game hunting for elk, moose, ect. Leaning toward the 300's but thought I'd get feedback.

Sounds like a toss up between the two 300's. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Using the 4 calibers you selected, I would go for the 300 win mag. Ammo is cheap with lots of variety and the caliber is and will be an all time favorite. Just about every firearms company sells numerous rifles in this caliber.

Winchester 70 in 300 WSM

Man, just got back from a gun shop and a LNIB Winchester 70 in 300 WSM (and one in 270 WSM) with dark brown laminate stock is there. I was TEMPTED, but thought I'd come home and check this post first.

Nice one in good ol' 30-06 is there too.

For what it's worth.
I sold a 300 wm and when I replaced it I bought a Browning Micro Hunter in 300 wsm. It's an outstanding round with a 180 gr. Easy to load for and easy to find factory rounds for. Has a shorter overall gun length. Lighter overall weight, which is easier to carry around all day. Recoil is very tolerable.
I highly recommend the round.

Wichester 300 WSM

Yeah, I may go get that tomorrow. With Winchester stopping the CT manufacturing, I guess now is as good as any to get one. Hmmmmmmm, should I or shouldn't I?

What do you call long range? In my opinion, if you have to ask about a cartridge for long range, the answer is the same as asking about a cartridge for dangerious game. Your not ready for it, study more!

If you want a new model 70, better do it. If your not attached to winchester there are lots of other great rifle makers out there.

I would exclude the 270 from the long range discussion. Its flat, but a heavier/wider bullet tends to have a better B.C. and thus retain more of its energy at greater distance.
