Vizsla dog Help

I own a vizsla and he is almost two years old now. I bought one after hunting behind several of my friends who own vizslas. My vizsla, even at his age is the best one i have ever hunted with. Great at pointing, retrieving and hunting within range. He is also incredible at listening to my commands on the hunt.

Problem: My dog is in a 13' by 7' kennel every day while im at work (7-11 hours). The kennel is heated and in a garage with everyhting he could possible want or need (except me). Anyways, maybe it is because he is young but he is crazy when I get home. i even try to excersize him but he is still kind of wild an crazy. Does anyone own a vizsla or have experience with the breed. Do they ever calm down more like a normal dog? Mine is also a huge jumber. he jumps everywhere. He is great in the field but a little too crazy for me and the iwfe at home. I hoped when i bought the bigger (huge) kennel that he would be able to jump and get some of his energy out. The only way to ever calm down my dog is to take him hunting all day and this is not possible all of the time. A thiry minute run sees to do nothing for him

Vizsla dog Help

Welcome aboard.

Sound's like you have a good relationship with your dog. It's not only happy to get out, it's happy to see you. Also sound's like you let it get away with it. Go in the kennel and make it calm down BEFOR letting it out of the kennel. Take it out on a leash and if it start's, take it right back in and calm it down.

Next, spend time obedience training it. Go to a class if they have one there. You only have an oberience problem really and it's not that bad.

Vizsla dog Help

thanks for the advice. i do think i need to be a little harder on him. He is an incredible dog on the hunt but I have never seen one with all the energy that he has. Anyways, I also think he may calm down a little once he is 3-5 years of age. He is a great friend and hunting buddy. I went out to a preserve to hunt pheasant last weekend with him and we had 14 birds put out and we saw 16. We ended the day with 14 birds and all were perfect stylish points.
I took some pics and should post them.
