Here's something that the media won't share with you.............

That video sure shatters the myth of human-caused global warming. There is another video on youtube.com titled "Global Warming - Doomsday Called Off" that says much the same as this video does. They are definitely worth a look.

I finally had a chance to watch the entire video (its over an hour long). Its well worth it and states what I have believed all along, that current global warming is simply a natural cycle in nature, caused mostly by the sun; sunspots to be specific.

Depending on how old you are lol some of you may remember the scary predictions back in the 60's. "Scientists" were predicting doom because of the impending ice age! Yes the earth had been in a cooling cycle for a number of years, that manifested itself in long cold winters and generally cooler weather around the world. It was predicted that crops would not mature and we would all starve. I remember one explanation floating around was that the earth's core was cooling.

The bottom line is that we must all do some research on our own and not depend on the media for the facts. Too many people have jumped on the global warming band wagon, to the point of scaring everyone half to death.

cowgal........you are right about the media. I believe in free speech but we are at the end of the pendulum swing and either end is a dangereous place to be.

At full swing in one direction we have the government telling us what we are allowed to do and what we should or should not think. When it reaches the end of its arc in the other direction we have the media shaping our minds and perceptions by bombarding us with what they want us to see to further their agendas.

In these days of instant communication and everyone in your face with video phones, cell phone mikes clipped to your ears, internet blogs and constant bashing...............the media is now powerful to the point of toppling governments, leaders, and totally twisting, directing and manipulating peoples views and, ultimately opinons, of issues. When you compound this with a massive urban population of increasingly shallow thinkers.........the people that keep the TV channels clogged with the likes of American Idol, Next Top Model, Survivor, the Bachelor and other such crap...............it is an immense problem.

This is compounded by the fact that savy politicians know the power the media has and can use it to further their agenda or keep our attention. A two pronged sword.

We need more deep thinkers out there, people that are not so quick to believe every damn thing they see on TV or read on the internet. People that will do a little research and even, dare I say it, read a book or two.

Locally at home the two big issues right now are, the perceived violation of detainees rights when they are handed over to Afghanistan troops (as opposed to how is the war on terror going and how are our Canadian troops fairing) and, did the captain picked for team Canada's make a racial slur against French Canadians back a couple of years ago (which he was cleared of ) as opposed to is he the right man for the job......the guys running the thing think so......get a life.

When I look around me and watch at how easy it is for the media to control and manipulate our society, it makes me shudder. It also makes me wonder what the big issues are that are going on behind the scenes that we are not hearing about............due to the planned smoke and mirrors issues that are thrown out there to keep us all occupied.

I find it increasingly hard to meet people that have a modicum of common sense and intelligence. People that actually put any real thought into things before forming opinions on important issues. People that when I ask, "What is your take on the global warming issue?" don't respond with, "Oh it's bad and we should all buy hybrid cars and tax those bad people with the four wheel drive trucks. Like, who really needs those? Oh, say..........did you see Britanny Spears new style.........it's totally awesome!"

There is a reason I try to spend more time with my dog and my horses these days. At least what you see is what you get.

I agree. The media is extremely powerful and too few people question it. The population as a whole is being led around like a bunch of sheep. Its scary!

I do believe we all need to be good stewards of this earth. We need to do our part to pollute less, recycle more, consume less, etc. The media has helped bring that into our daily consciousness, but they've gone overboard.

I had some thoughts on this issue about a year ago here....
http://www.biggamehunt.net/node/17126
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The NAS (National Academy of Sciences) gave a report 5 years ago stating bluntly:

"Greenhouse gases are accumulating in the earth's atmosphere as a result of human activities, causing temperatures to rise."

This position like other NAS positions is based on a review of current peer reviewed articles. Basically its a comment by scientists on the findings of scientific studies.

I tend to agree with the NAS position, simply because it makes sense and has good founding in many scientific journals. When I talk about "journals" I'm referring to non-main-stream media, erudite publications that the general population has little interest in.

A few points that are beyond dispute:

1.) Greenhouse gases (CO2, CO, and CH4) are on the rise and have steadily increased since the industrial revolution. These gases undeniable increase the atmosphere's ability to absorb heat.

2.) Burning of fossil fuels by people is the primary source of these gases. Volcanic activity being a secondary source.

3.) The globe is warming. Numerous surface, ocean, and atmosphere studies have shown the warming trend. The degree and rate of warming is up for grabs, but the trend is clear.

Now here is the big leap 2 -> 1 which creates 3. It is possible that the globe is warming as a part of a natural cycle; however when one plots out the gas rise mentioned in 1 compared to millennium of ice core samples it becomes quite clear that the greenhouse gas rise of the last 150 years is quite austere in the bigger scheme of the geologic record. In other words, I would be more surprised if the huge spike in green house gases didn't cause a warming trend than if they did.

The big question in my mind is how this increased energy in the planet will cause weather patterns to change. The general media tends to focus on the negative impacts (sells papers, ya..da..ya..da). However I tend to think there may be some good impacts, chief among them that more land will become capable of sustained food and cash crops. In other words, while some regions may become more arid, other regions (perhaps a net plus on global whole) will warm and have longer and wetter growing seasons. The net result be an increase in land for agriculture.

I'm fairly convinced that ocean storms will become more severe as the globe warms. A good chunk of the increased energy absorbed by global energy will be pumped into the ocean. More energy makes for fiercer storms. On the other hand, the increased energy could shut down the north Atlantic conveyor and possibly start an ice age...

Furthermore, I'm certain that regardless of what we do (burn, not burn) the planet is probably going to go on with wild weather as it has demonstrated in the geologic record for eons.

All that being said, I find the issue of ozone depletion far more serious and life threatening (literally) than global warming.

Another point is that I think we'll run out of fossil fuels (or at least our burn rate will not always be able to over power the re-absorption rate of the rest of the planet) before we can do any major damage. In other words, God didn't give us enough rope to hang ourselves. How's that for philosophy?

Well it looks like today's global Live Earth concerts will continue to propel the notion that people and CO2 are fueling the climactic changes.

I do believe we should all be good stewards of our earth home. It definitely does not hurt us to become more aware of our usage of fossil fuels and try to conserve more, however as I stated previously, I'm not convinced that people have affected the climactic changes.

It has not been proven that CO2 produced by people/industry is linked to climate changes. Bitmasher you need to watch the video. How do you explain the cool down that ended less than 30 years ago & then reversed itself into a warming trend? The cool down happened during an era when we had a lot less (most likely none!) emission controls on our vehicles and factories.

I reread the post from last year (linked above in Bitmasher's post) and I have to agree with DenverdOn. Back in the 60' & 70's the media had the same hysterical approach to the cooling changes and scientists had all kinds of "proven" explanations, and then like magic the climate simply reversed itself.

The google link no longer works. I found the video on youtube, its been broken into 8 - 10 minute segments. Here is the link to the first one:

The remainder of the segments are linked on the right side of the above page.

I am not convinced that we are solely responsible for global warming, but some of the suggestions by those that want us to stop it aren't bad regardless of whether or not it is true.

What's wrong with using less energy whether it be in the form of fuel efficient cars or lightbulbs?

Factories in China spewing out pollution can't be good for us so why not move to stop it?

It is ironic that they hold this concert to promote Green, but can you imagine the amount of electricity they used for it?

And then there is Mr. Private jet and energy sucking Mansions Al Gore preaching do as I say not as I do.

Hey Nail that's great. did you get it out of the car window or the front of your boat? Laugh

As for the media, all I read in news papers is sport's and once in awhile the classifieds. Don't get TV so don't watch news on the TV either. Go down to the cafe for coffee often and get caught up on what's making everybody nervious today. Government is a sheep herder and the newa is the sheep dog.
