Just an added piece of information. I have been applying to vermont and NH for a few years and while looking through the harvest stats and getting my list of areas together for this year, I noticed Vermont added an additional drawing. It is an extra $25.00 but this is for an early archery only moose hunt, the week before the regular seaeon (I think its a week). Gives everyone a second chance at drawing a moose tag.

I think it's a great idea for extra time to get a moose. I'd hate to see someone that doesn't really bow hunt to apply for a permit just to get one and just wound an animal though. Just make sure of your shot and good luck.
There are still some who insist a scope is not needed for the type hunting they do, ignoring the advances of the last 150 years in optical sights. (Even the ultra-conservative US Army has adopted optical sights.) The idea that in some special circumstances open iron sights or aperture (peep) sights might be more useful is not lost on me, but with the inevitable advance of age comes the reduction in visual acuity needed for using iron sights.
