For those of you that are interested Utah's Guide Book is now out in it's official version.
The biggest change was that they went to 30 units for the general hunt instead of the 5 regions and they cut another 6,000 deer tags. The purpose of the 30 units is to allow better management of the deer herd since it has been dropping for quite a few years and they want to try and get a hand on in. That is also the reason for the cut in tags also.
Also for those who don't know Utah's Limited Entry and Once in a Lifetime hunts are set up with bonus points so when you put in you really don't know if you are going to draw or not. I have seen people draw a tag with 0 points when a hunter with 10 points didn't. As for the general deer hunts they use preference points to help out those that didn't draw the previous year.
The application period will start February 1, 2012 and is done on line but the draws will not take place until sometime in May. They also do not know how many tags are going to be offered in each unit until the range rides are done in April of 2012 so a lot of this stuff is going to be a crap shoot if you want to put in for a general season hunt.
