Utah South Slope Bonanza Vernal Hunting Question (Buck Deer and Cow Elk)

Ok, so I'm a pretty new hunter.  I just drew out for the Utah South Slope Bonanza Vernal area for buck and cow.  Can anyone here give me any advice for areas of this large area to go into?  I will be bringing a very seasoned hunter from Wyoming but he doesn't know the territory at all.  Any thoughts?  I don't mind a long hike at all.  We're both in fairly good shape.  The unit seems huge.  Also, where can we get a map that shows the tribal lands and private property so we know exactly where we can and cannot hunt?

The best thing that I can say

The best thing that I can say is to get out there and start scouting.  There is nothing worse that showing up in a hunting area that you know nothing about.  For Indian Reservation lands, there isn't very much in that unit.  You will also have to decide if you want to hunt elk, deer or both at the same time.  For deer only I personally would head south to the White River area but you will find very few elk there.  There are some large deer there and if you hit the migration right you can get them coming off of the Book Cliffs and out of Colorado.  Elk on the other hand I would head north west of Vernal off of the Red Cloud Loop road and you will also find deer in this area along with a lot of othe hunters.

For maps have you looked at the one on the Utah's DOW site?

For other maps I would get the Ashley National Forest map which you can pick up at their headquarters in Vernal or purchase on line.

I would also purchase the BLM maps for Dutch John and Vernal areas.  All of them will show private and Indian Reservation land on them.
