I DON'T THINK THAT IS A GOOD IDEA, THE NWTF HAS DONE GOOD JOB ON BRINGING THEM BACK IN UTAH AND NOW THERE ARE GOING TO KILL THEM ALL OFF JUST LIKE THEY ARE DOING WITH ARE ELK. WE HAD THE BEST ELK HERDS IN UT NOW THE ELK NUMBERS ARE GOING DOWN,LET ME TELL YOU WHY, TOO MANY BIG BULL TAGS FOR MOST OF THESE UNITS THEY ARE GIVING MORE SPIKE TAGS AND THE WORST OF ALL THEY ARE GIVING TOO MANY COW ELK TAGS AND THOSE HUNT IN LATE DEC AND JAN THOSE COWS ARE CARRYING ARE FUTURE SPIKES AND MOST IMPORTANT ARE BIG BULL ADD ALL THAT UP ITS NOT GOOD. I HUNT ELK EVERY YEAR AND PUT TREE CAMS OUT FOR FUN TRUST ME ELK NUMBERS ARE GOING DOWN, I HATE TO SEE THE TURKEY'S GO DOWN JUST SO THE DWR CAN MAKE MORE MONEY THAN LAST YEAR THAT IS WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT. I WOULD RATHER WAIT A FEW YEARS TO DRAW A TAG AND KNOW I WILL HAVE A GOOD CHANCE AT A TROPHY NOT A JAKE OR A RAG HORN OR A WILLOW HORNED BUCK BUT THAT'S ME. I AM STARTING TO THINK I AM THE ONLY ONE WHO FILLS THIS WAY GOOD LUCK HUNTING THIS YEAR!

HunterG up until a few weeks ago I would have disagreed with you on the elk but after a few weeks of hunting something doesn't seem right. There are still elk there and still some big bulls but the numbers just don't seem to be there. This past weekend I hunted the Wasatch unit and I found a few 320ish bulls but nothing bigger and they were fairly few and far between. But it seems the state is reporting great herd numbers. I hate to jump to conclusions and I am generally trusting of the state reports but again something seems off this year.

With that being said the state has worked very hard to establish the Turkeys in strong numbers and I hope they don't blow it due to demand.

Wildlife is a revenue generator and I really hope the other branches of government don't leech and pressure the DWR to issue more tags just to generate more dollars.

rather b huntin, i dont mean to sound like i am one of those guys who thinks they know everything and i dont but i do know my elk herds if you hunted spikes and spend time after time watching bulls on the wasatch, nebo u should have notice 2-3 years ago the decline yes there are big bulls still but the quality is down and the heard count. i hunted for spikes last year muzz for 5days i only saw 1 spike and 20 cows i road horse, 4weeler most of you could say ya u dont know what your doing i have 4 other guys who hunted w us and can see the decline. that's just what it seems to me anyway i just wish they would'nt give those late cow tags and reduce the numbers of tags on the cows. did you kill a elk, u said u were out last week or just looking?

It is kind of funny. to me, it is just a fricken nuisance bird. I don't get the allure of turkey hunting. It seems like all turkeys are good for is to deficate on your front step. neener!

Not sure if you understood what I was trying to say but yeah I do agree with you based on what I've seen the last few weeks. The elk numbers don't seem to be there in there areas you usually see them. I didn't see any real big bulls either. Just like your tree cam pics I only saw low 300 class bulls only 2 at that.

I was deer hunting and doing some preseason scouting for spikes. My wife got her hunters safety earlier this year and I am taking her on her first ever hunt. She's got a spike rifle tag and I'm so excited to take her out. She's tagged along with me on few but she's never been the hunter. We'll start out with spikes on the wasatch and if that doesn't pan out we'll head further south.
