utah deer herds

The utah deer herds are in dire straits. The snow level in the whats left of the wintering ground is at an all time high. This goes beyond hunting and goes into the realm of a true sportsman. The delay to feed these animals by the UDWR(Utah divisision of wildlife resources) was as arrogant as i have yet to see in my 39 yrs on this earth. Sportsmen in utah (the sfw) have already started to feed, the utah DWR is just now in the last few days got off their preverbiale behind and started to do somthing about the issue( way to little way to late!!) I have called and tried to donate funds to UDWR , said they would call me back. (phone silent) i will I am not sure what we can do, but just keeping your eye out and passing along valuable media info is important. So far Utah is the only state that is in such a bad way, however with a few more storms out west Id,MT,WY could be in the same boat.

Sad deal! You'd think UDWR would be concerned about the deer, after all it's their "cash crop". It might be hard to justify 95,000 tags with a bad winter kill.
Colorado has been feeding their deer in the Gunnison basin for around 3-4 weeks now. Last I heard they had a 3-4 feet crusty base on the wintering grounds. I also heard that Wyoming has a lot of snow in some of their wintering areas.

Soules2007 I could not agree with you more.. Utah DOW has been way far behind the ball on taking care of the deer heards here. I am fearing that they were to late in the feedings and that the winter kill is going to be very high. I have called and offered donations and volunteer work but like you said silent on the other line. I have had bad experiences with them several times. But lets just hope the winter kill is not to great.

Well visited utah last week, some deer herds seem fine others not so good, between logan and brigham city i saw deer on the road, stuck between the snowplow berm and the traffic. they were just waiting to be hit by cars. and i could not understand why they could not climb the snow berm? was it lack of energy or would they just sink in to far? either way they were stuck in the emergency lane as morons in cars drovem blaring their horns at them, sending them into hysterics and out into the middle of the road.
