using a game cart / dolly / thing

i've been thinking of either buy or making myself one of those 2 wheeled carts for hauling larger game like deer....

question is......
how do you guys use them...do you leave them in your vehicle and go back for them, or do you brign them with you and leave them at the foot of your stand?

sounds silly i know, but i dont want to have a cart there that will scare away an animal that might spot it ,,,but dont want to waste the effort of walking the distance back to the vehicle if i dont have to

i hunt public land, so no ATVs allowed and i usually go further in to make up for the high volume of hunters.

thanks

If you're not worried about someone stealing it, leave it 50 yards or so from your stand and cover it with brush or something.

I used to walk back to my truck for my cart. Then I bought a Tree Lounge Tree stand they actually sell a axle and wheels for it but I make mine since I had the wheels I wanted to use. I take it right to my tree with me the axle sits right there when I need it, I've had deer come up look at it and just not do a thing it hasn't spooked a critter yet.

Welcome Greg Big smile Part of hunting is the excercise. After shooting an animal you should have so much adrenaline running through your veins you'll be running back to the truck Yes How far are you parking from your stand?

this is my first season bow hunting, first season deer hunting, first season hunting anything but upland game!

i shot a 6 pt buck last week (on only my 6th time out deer hunting, i think thats pretty good! ) , but made the mistake of getting down from my tree stand too soon and wasnt able to find it :(....... should have found this board before that, theres a posting about it somewhere on here that showed me the errors in my ways

anywho...i've traveled in as far as a mile into the wood so far, trying to get to the areas that are less hunted by the average guy, i think its paid off by the numbers of deer i've seen on public land (although most seem to be just out of range or through brush i dont feel comfortable shooting through.

going out again on wednesday with my brother.....morning at one place and afternoon at an other.....so hopefully we'll have some good luck again, and better luck finding it.

Sempr,
Great idea on making it...my climbing tree stand is rigid enough that if i put the halves end to end and added an axle it should work....... I think i'm going to look into that! thanks for the idea!

and thanks for the replies everyone

Each to his own, I prefer to return to truck and drop off extra clothes and weapon and grab up cart, lantern etc. This way you never come back empty handed ! Big smile Good Luck !

you mean you dont have your deer trained to go get your cart FOR YOU??? Laugh Laugh Laugh Lawdy tha things I gotta teach these younguns neener! Seriously...Them deer carts are nice...Id do like ole Hammer said (and it was probably hammerette's idea) and put it about 50 yards from your stand and have at it...If you are packin in a mile or so on PUBLIC land you run the risk of those ever so present UNETHICAL hunters that like to pounce on someone elses Kill!!! And yes folks it happens WAY MORE THAN ID LIKE TO ADMIT!!! banghead You would also be really messin up the area walkin out and back in as well...Never travel in a deer area more than NEEDED...Someone else may also be in there hunting and you wouldnt wanna mess up thier hunt as well walking all the way out and then Back in...field dressing a deer...then rollin it back out...Thats ALOT of useless noise and scent. Good luck to ya der jeepers and WELCOME TO BGH Thumbs up
