Update on my brother

Hello to everybody. It's been about a week now and I thought I would give you a update on Gary (my brother). No deer yet..but he still has another week to hunt. The mysterious hunter has appeared again. Seems that the camp he comes from has been destroyed by the DNR last year. Lumberjacks came in and cleared the land that this camp hunted in for years. He didn't talk to my brother but my brother heard the story in town from some locals. The mysterious hunter must seem like a man without a country. He is just wandering the woods looking for a place to hunt, but bumping into hunters that have been hunting they're spots for years. 2 days ago he wandered right under my brothers tree looked up at him and didn't say a word...just kept walking. Maybe sometimes this might not be too bad. My brother just sits tight in his spot..maybe the hunter could steer up something in the process huh. My brother has forgiven who ever cut the fanbelt...he is a Christian. By the way...he does have 2 motion detector camera's but has left them where they are. We are allowed in this state to hunt from a tree...although it's only been a couple of years. I think the old fashion way of just being on the ground most of the hunters prefer. I'll get back and give a update to you all and thanks for all the replies. This forum is alot of fun and you are all very nice sounding people....good luck to all the hunters out there.

Yes he just might send something his way??

When I first started hunting the ever so wary whitetail, I always despised rabbit hunters, and always got mad when they came through the woods. BUT seeing the fact that they get the deer up and moving....Well..thats a good thing!

That, and the fact that I got stuck one day and a rabbit hunter helped me out, and if not, I might have been stuck for quite some time!

We are all in the same woods (public) and we all are there for the same reason (hunting). We should just do the best we can with what we have.

Now try being on PRIVATE property and having someone waltzing right through THAT is a bummer!

Good luck to your brother, and tell him I hunt around 400 acres of private property and *I* haven't gotten one yet either, so he doesn't need to feel alone LOL!

Of course I have SEEN them, but not close enough yet. I'm still working on figuring out travel patterns in the deep hills, it's not the same as near cities.

Glad to hear that your brother still got out and went hunting Cancy. Chuck's right, having other hunters play the inadvertent push man for the game is a good way to go.

Hope your hunt pans out Chuck.

Nope, didn't pan out, haven't gotten lucky YET. (noticed I said LUCKY) thats almost the only way you can get a whitetail!

You CAN increase your odds, but thats it.
If anyone disagrees, please reply hehe Grin

I am still seeing them, just not in the right place at the right time yet.

Here in Ohio, bowhunting goes until January 31st. Still a lot of fun ahead, and muzzeloading is December 27-30, so thats another decent chance.

Had a Doe about 25 feet away last night, but she was behind a little brush sad

I have to admit, I'm a bit jealous of these long seasons you have in Ohio. Colorado's rifle seasons are just 7 days long... Guess I could get a bow and extend my hunting time.

Well if you are getting within 25 feet of does, I'm sure your not going to have any trouble filling your tag. Wink
