Unti 21 Early Rifle Elk Tag

I have plenty of information to share on Arizona Unit 5A and 5B, but I am a rookie to Unit 21. My oldest son had 8 bonus points and got drawn for an Early Rifle Elk Tag in Unit 21. 5 tags is all that is handed out for this hunt, what a lucky young man. Game and Fish says to scout the Black Hills and Pine Mountain. Does anyone else have information to share. 23 weekends left to scout. lol. I dont plan on wasting anytime, I really need to get to know the area. Thanks ahead of time.

Been on five scouting trips thus far. Already starting to put a plan together, but still have alot to learn and see. Have had the trail cameras out for awhile. This is 1 of 2 Bulls caught on camera. He still has almost 3 months to grow! Seen a few deer and turkey as well.

Re: Unti 21 Early Rifle Elk Tag

What do you think this Bull will be in another 3 months? I am assuming he has another 75 days of growing before he starts shredding his velvet. Now I also am assuming he will grow approx. 1" inch a day. He obviuosly is a 5x5 right now and it looks like he is starting to kick out his 6th point. Its tough to say but I would guess him to be already 245 (he looks to have good 2nds already, average/good 3rds). I would say he will be a 320 + Bull, if not bigger! Have some fun with me. Am I way off? Whats everyones opion. I am not the greatest at this, but trying to get better.

bigalwapiti,

Thanks for sharing the pics and the update. Thumbs up I think he is going to be a very respectable bull. They always look bigger in the velvet and even harder to tell from a pic (the score). Hopefully you get another pic of him when he is almost done. Keep us posted. Mr. Cool!

I don't think I would pass him up during the season. Good luck, hope you get him.

Some updated pictures

Another picture of the Bull I posted before, and he is growing nicely. Plus I got one with some junk. My Boy is getting pumped up. Just 12 plus weeks left. I had one camera out with over 300 different pictures taken x 3 burst. We had a blast and still are looking through them all.

Very nice pictures. Those trail cameras sure work good. If that does not get you excited I'm not sure what would. Keep the pictures coming and let us know how the hunt turns out... Good luck!

No Pressure

I have told him no pressure, everyday. He keeps grinning from ear to ear. We are going to thoroughly enjoy the hunt. I hope to have both my boys and good friends join us. In this area I will need some help packing out his Bull if he is luck enough. Thanks
