Okay, so I've been out scouting/hunting after work with the GF, hoping to fill her cow tag. We got close on Wed night, jumped a cow and a calf, but she felt bad about shooting the calf's mama. Lets not talk about it, cause it made me rightfully mad....
I found a great spot which we hiked the last two days that showed fresh sign and track. Wasn't fresh enough to put on a stalk, I mean a lot of fresh track and sign!!!
So I thought about heading up there in the morning and seeing if I can jump something.
here is the dilemma... the tracks lead from one the bottom of one canyon, across the road and back down into another canyon where I'm sure they bed down, etc. The road runs North South and the canyons run East West.
I can enter the spot via the road either from the North or South.I found me a nice place to sit that is about 200 yards on a hillside, just North of the path where they cross the road.
I planned on getting up there well before sunrise/shooting light. I don't want to risk spooking any elk that might be taking this path.
So should I approach from the north and just post up on my spot, sit in the truck and wait? Would I be better off parking a 1/4mile away and walking to my spot?
