unseasonably warm

Boy oh boy.  We had a few people ask about backpacking in for elk this season.  The way the weather has been so far they may have picked the best season for doing so.  Hopefully the mild weather will last statewide through the month.

I would love some weather for our hunt in the first season Just hopefully nothing crazy. I don't want to get snowed in some place and have to move my camp or just get stuck period

It'll probably drop into the teens around the last week of October just in time for me to get out there and freeze my butt off.  Our last trip out a few years back in the second rifle season had us wearing t-shirts hunting in 80 degree weather.  It was absolutely rediculous.  Did the wamr temps have any effect on the rut or is it full swing right now?

I hope we start to cool off

I hope we start to cool off here soon.  I do not mind a little milder temps for elk hunting, but 80 degrees is a bit much.  As thing usually go here in a few weeks up in the hills it will start to cool off some and maybe even get a little snow of some sort.  Something has to the elk moving around.  I chased them so hard durning archery season, looking for a more relaxed hunt.  But know me I will chase them into the deepest darkest canyon I can find.  And them spend the next 2 days packing one out.....what fun...can't wait!!

I think the temperatures have

I think the temperatures have been little above average, but it has been particularly dry, which has its own cooling effect.  Usually archery season has more rain than it did this go around.  Second season is 2.5 weeks away and based on the forecast it looks like rain and cooler temps is on the way.

bitmasher.....I hope your right.  The last 2 yrs second season has been warm and dry.  I like the cool/cold and some snow weather for elk hunting.  Seems like they are not very active and get back to their hideouts early when it is warm and dry.

I hope next year is better, i

I hope next year is better, i was looking forward to getting into some rutting bulls and it didnt really happen this year, in oregon we have been in a la nina pattern this year which is usally dryer than normal and we went 63 days without rain this summer and then a cooler and wetter than normal winter. hopefully its not too bad so we dont have a large winter kill off.
