Unit 61 early season Black Bear

Hey everyone!  Finally after waiting 6 years to get the tag, Steve and I finally drew our unit 61 western Colorado early rifle season (Sep 2nd) bear tags.  Anyone ever hunted this unit before or have any ideas on where to focus our scouting/hunting?  As always, both of our hunts will be filmed and we will continue chasing trophy class big game without guides, leases, or outfitters.   Thank you for any responses, and if you have time, check us out at Ateamprostaff.com

Congrats !

Congrats on a great tag ! Yes Almost every drainage will hold bears and they will be covering lots of ground this year. So we should all see lots of bears (I will be in unit 62 for my Sept bear tag).

Good luck with your hunts this year and share the story and pics when seasons over.

Depending on the pinion nut

Depending on the pinion nut crop you may want to check out the north rim of the San Miguel River Canyon. I have seen a big blonde down by the river edges fishing there in the fall, the only probably is that it was 13 years ago!! The area is NE of Naturita off of Hwy. 90. They are creatures of habit. I don't know how well the acorns will produce this year, since I haven't been over there.
