unit 50 new mexico elk hunt

Hello i just purchased a unit wide elk tag for unit 50 in new mexico with 4 days till the hunt starts, i have never hunted in this unit a was wondering if there was anybody out there willing to share a little info on where to start. Not looking to step on toes or exact locations just a guy who wasnt able to draw a tag and loves to hunt elk so i purchaed the tag in desperation to get a chance to get in the field. Any information would be greatly appreciated, Thanks john

John,

With only a couple of days left I wish you the best of luck.  This thread may help point you in the right direction:  http://www.monstermuleys.info/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboard.pl?az=show_thread&...

It's been pretty dry, so I'd focus on water.  If it does rain during your hunt, watch out for the roads... they can get very greasy, very fast.

unit 50 elk hunt

Just got back from elk hunt unit 50 bagged an awsome 6x6 haus in full rut 1st day of hunt st 9a.m. Most of the elk there are resident and have learned the routine of people everywhere, very thick rolling pinon and juniper open sage meadows easy walking tough seeing. Just went of info from park ranger in tres pierdas, seen tons of animals water was everywhere just had to be in right place at right time.....good luck on your hunt figured out dome great spots......
