Unit 40 Colorado

Elkkill, I am planning to hunt unit 40 this fall. I have 8 points and plan to archery hunt. My only concern is navigating the public/private boundaries. We are considering hunting the south eastern BLM property. There looks to be very limited access from 141 but miles of hunting around Mayflower Gulch and Snyder Flats. We are planning to backpack in and back country camp. I have been researching this area since November. Do you feel this area would be a good hunt. Is this area marked well. We were cautioned by Cabela's Tags that this might not be a good option due to the limited amount of public land. Any input would be appreciated.

I have always liked the area around Snyder Flatts and it is well marked. The only reason I would think Cabelas Tags would tell you it was a bad idea is because alot of the tags for Mnt Isiand Ranch and Goulbes have there hunters get ther tags from them. It was set up like that when they were still doing the RFW. Ther are alot of elk that really like that side of the mountain. I think it is excellent choise, it also very good around North Lobe Creek. If you really want to get away from poeple North creek is very good also, but very, very rugged. If you have any more questions let me know. Also the best way to hike up there is North Lobe Cr.

Thank you for the information. I will probably have more questions as the season gets closer.
