Unit 33 Archery Elk

Me and my dad are looking to head to unit #33 this if we are lucky enough to get drawn. Can you guys help a couple of flatlanders from Michigan out with a rough idea on where to start? I have been studding google earth for the last few weeks, but I’m sure everyone else that is headed to that area has been doing the same thing. We aren’t looking for 300” bulls we are just looking to see and hear elk.
Thanks for any help or advise you can give.

The canyons

Only very rarely will you see elk on top and in the meadows.  They'll be closer to the mouths of those long canyons... The darker the timber the better.  In fact, I've never seen a bull, only cows that weren't in the canyons.  Doesn't mean you have to be all the way in the bottom of one, but don't expect to see them out on top in a meadow.  Even during the summer this has held true for me.

Which Canyons

Are there any areas that you would suggest looking at before others? Are there good numbers of elk in this area?

Thanks for your help
