Family friends will be there 2nd season. 2 other guys I know will also be there, but on a drop camp hunt 5 miles on horses! Becareful of the Beetle kill trees falling!!! They are dangerous with a little wind and moisture you will be needing to get to a clearing. 7000 dollars damage to my friends truck 2 years ago with 2 tree's falling on it!! Was there on the 1st of Sept. and cut a few more trees around their camp!! Wind picked up on the 3rd and trees started coming down!!! Take a chainsaw for sure, trees can come down over the road anywhere!!!

Esssential advice this year. I'll be up in 18 for a quick weekend hunt. Have been scouting/chasing grouse in our spot 3-4 times the last month and the snags are getting nuts in places. Lots of logging this year that's pretty much cleared out the ones directly by the roads, but once you're in even a little ways, be careful.
The positive is that there are piles and piles of slash and short/warped/busted logs everywhere, so camp wood is easy to come by.
Heading to our spot this evening! my first elk hunt and i cant wait, 308. and 300win will be used to cover distance. I really appreciate your advice on the beetle kill, i thought it was rough up their but i know now that we will have to take extra precautions.
Are having some success!!!! Brothers group has a 4 point Buck and Doe hanging and My other friends further North have at least one nice 6 by 6 Elk down! Hope to see some pic's soon!! Gotta message from the satelite phone on the Bull!! That wasn't cheap!!
When hunting whitetails there are many different languages being spoken afield that I key on when outdoors. All these little creatures living around whitetails have something to tell us if we are willing to listen.
My favorite tattletales of the outdoors are a handful of little birds that live in my state of Ohio. Maybe yours too. A tip for the upcoming season.
There are Blue Jays, Cardinals, Chickadees, Killdeer, and Sparrows that all have language...
