I have Hunted Elk in Unit 15, but not Antelople. This Year i got a antelope archery tag and was wondering if anyone has hunted or knows of anyone hunting this unit. I have heard this is a true trophy unit for Antelople.
I live just north of 15, but never hunted it. But I've seen some great antelope bucks in there. Check the BLM lands south of hwy 60 near Red Hill. Biggest problem is the big ranches and the outfitters that control access or think they own it all. I'll ask my outfitter/guide buddy that is a honest guy. I'll pm you with what I find out. Good Luck, someday maybe I'll get a chance at a speedgoat in NM.
Thanks for your help, any help is good help. I have heared about a outfitter running off guys in that area too. i have been looking at all the maps i can find. I am going to also go off what i saw last year on my elk hunt. thanks again. Hope to show some pictures. I also hope you the best of luck in getting a antelope some day too.
North of Hwy 60 and Quemado is unit 12, 15 is south. The Luna Rd. south of Red Hill has lots of BLM and goes into the Apache forest. But I saw a big BC buck 2 days in a row on FS land near Aragon last weekend. 15 is a big unit. Good Luck!
I think that big one you saw last weekend is the one i saw last year that spark my interst in this unit. I hope he is big as i remember him. I am coming down this saturday to look around. Hope to see some good ones.
There are still some who insist a scope is not needed for the type hunting they do, ignoring the advances of the last 150 years in optical sights. (Even the ultra-conservative US Army has adopted optical sights.) The idea that in some special circumstances open iron sights or aperture (peep) sights might be more useful is not lost on me, but with the inevitable advance of age comes the reduction in visual acuity needed for using iron sights.
I believe that many who completely resist the idea of...
