The term JAR HEAD and the meaning behind it comes to mind here....Jar Head means your head is an empty vessel waiting to be filled.....Guess you missed the fill line there semper...And as far as slappin around a Navy fella....Come slap this ex S.E.A.L. lil one...I eat red patches for breakfast!!!! What you did was totally incorrect to a YOUNG hunter...My situation was far different as the individual I had to talk to was in his 40's and just simply to lazy to get outta bed for proper deer hunting... Plus I didnt THREATEN the fool...Simply had a little talk with him about ethics and showing common curtousy to other hunters!!! What you did was thuggish and rude...And no sir your actions do NOT represent the common Marine Sir...In no way shape form or fashion...A TRUE Marine exemplifies DISCIPLINE for he KNOWS what he is capable of. Your Siggy is your siggy and I could care less...But do NOT compare your stupidity or your brutish actions to that of a TRUE Marine. BTW....YW Hat

I was going to get all into a big story about the last Marine that barked at me like this and how his neck ended up under my bootheel as he begged me not to gut him, but we'll leave that part out.
Bottom line for me Sempr was i just think you could have handled it better and youre absolutely right what i think really doesnt matter. You have to live with your behavior and the ramifications of it. One of the most obvious ramifications is any respect you could have gathered from me is now a non issue. How many other crawl on that bandwagon who knows but I'd imagine I am not alone in my thoughts. All military insinuations aside, as a hunter you embarrassed us all.
Good luck with the rest of the season and i hope when you cool off you might reconsider some of the things said here and see we want to be proud of you.

Hatracked, until you've earned the title Marine with sweat and blood and tears, shut your hatch. You've run aground and need to wait for the tide to come back in. I'm sure everyone is SO WORRIED about losing your respect. You deserve getting spanked by your pa for your lack of respect for veterans...
You fail to realize the most simple fact of this WHOLE MATTER, which is that this older gentleman EMBARASSED All SPORTSMEN by showing up in the woods unprepared and going after a deer right away without giving the deer any respect or time to die peacefully.
If you ever come down to FL, which I hope you don't, I would research the laws a little before you think that someone that is up a tree before light is hunting illegally. That is hunting SMART not ILLEGALLY, something that this other moron who is IN QUESTION, (not Sempr), should have known from the HUNTER SAFETY BASIC COURSE. This guy was IGNORING other people which is very dangerous out in the woods.

Sir you dont read well with a high level of comprhension do you? My respect for military vets of any branch has never been in question but by yourself. if anything, I have been told I hold to much respect for men in uniform particularly Marines. Y'all make up your mind how you want to be known, as some of the best trained fighting men in the world that carry themselves proudly and represent our country, or a bunch of thugs with no sense of honor or restraint.
I find it very hard to belive that as a whole you would want to be seen as mindless thugs with no self control and had i given you or Sempr your currently requested badge of honor youd be screaming from the other end of the pulpit using sharp uniforms and recrutiting images to make your case.
I hunt in Florida right regular usually a few times a year. Fish there to. despite what you think there are legal access times and while i am not up on what Florida's is, most states have a designated time it is legal for you to enter and exit publc land. usually within 1.5 hours either side of sunrise. may not be true in Fl but I will go out on a limb and lay a stiff bet that it is in Va.
if you want to weigh fouls on who was more outta line Sempr or the offending newbie. I still lay my opinion out as uneducated is far less offending that out of control with education.

Hatracked, what is before the hunt. Once you step into the woods you should be in the hunting mode in all aspects. I don't know what the regs are for other states, but in TN and WI you can enter the woods anytime that you want, BUT you legal shooting hours are 1/2 hour before sunrise to sunset. Anytime before or after that it is illegal to shoot (except for cetain night hunting which is the opposite). Yes, Sempre may have over reacted with the new hunter, BUT he was pissed off and I would have reacted the same way. Those who either serve or have served have a different mentality than everyone else. Sempre showed great restraint with his actions and until you have served, you would not understand.

You guys are hung up on that before the hunt thing aint ya. Let see before legal shooting light arrived and you could begin shooting deer. You might have considered solving your problem instead of letting it sit there 50 yards from you until the inevitable interference happened. You took a gamble by leaving him sit there and you lost. Plain and simple. Not saying for a minute what the fella did prior or after the shot was right in any way.
BTW i check the VA site and DID NOT see any regulation stating what time you have to be in and out of the woods with a firearm but they do say there is additional regulations concerning access posted at each WMA. I have yet to ever set foot on a piece of public land that didnt have an entrance and exit deadline. apparently you guys hunt the only place in the country where you can walk around anytime of the night with a loaded gun in the public woods.
Sempre showed great restraint with his actions and until you have served, you would not understand.
LMAO Oh now that makes me feel better.
great restraint, I am going to quit cause from here it will get nothing but ugly and i certainly wouldnt want to give anyone the impression i dont respect our military personel by responding with whats on my mind after you posted that comment.

I think there's been enogh TALK for today but to clarify for Florida...
Here in Florida we can enter the woods on WMA's at any time for the most part depending on whether or not there is a check station, which they normally open around 3am, this is done so that hunters CAN get in a tree before the sun comes up and BE SITUATED before that happens so that they can enjoy SUCCESS. Some WMA's have check stations, some don't. Of course there are shooting hours (one half hour before sunrise and one half hour after sunset), and there are certain places that you are not permitted to carry your rifle loaded but that's not in the woods where you are supposed to have your rifle loaded, which is the whole point of being in the woods and hunting deer....

Wow! This thread really caught my attention!
First off, congrats to you, hatracked. I am shocked to see it took so long for someone to call sempr on his piss-poor behavior in the woods. Anyone interested in our hunting future would have seen this as an opportunity to help a new hunter and explain to him what he did wrong. Granted, any of us would have been upset at first, but, for God's sake.... it was his first time hunting and his heart was in the right place trying to find the deer.
Also, hunter777, I applaud your position.
Sempr, I dont know where to start. I, too, proudly served in the military. Lots of people do. That is not remotely relevant. You went on and on (in a clearly plagiarized anthem not written by you) about how marines look for fights, steal and get drunk. Just who was this supposed to impress? This is a hunting site, sempr! Nobody cares how tough you think you are. Really.
Semper, you were given an opportunity to provide an example and failed. You threatened a brand new hunter??? You are an embarrassment to our sport and I doubt any hunting camp would take you anyway, so may as well get used to hunting public land. Although I wouldnt make a habit of threatening hunters in Montana!
I must agree with one thing, sempr.....There obviously are morons hunting public land these days.
Again, hatracked and hunter777, I am glad I wasnt the only one disappointed in sempr's behavior. I would share a camp with you guys anytime. Good ethics and interest in our future!
