Ok, after readind and searching I haven't really found a thread with some good hunting locations. So post your hunting locals in california.

I'll go first, though I've never been there I've been told it has some turkey.

oh ya, tons I see them everywhere. It's just that the places I see them you can't hunt them. Too many Libs around here for that.

bear with me. i'm from KS, where if you see some turkeys you can just go ask the land owner if you can hunt and all is OK. I don't understand your situation. where do you see these? private or public land and why can't you hunt them? Think
I feel for ya whatever the situation is. Cry

ya, it sucks. I see them in county parks, private land, and questionable land. But it's within city limits so no gun fire aloud. Its a little harder to find land owners out here. Plus with this being a liberal state I'd get chased off of more land than welcomed to it.

Ok, I just cant resist this one. You will not be able to hunt within city limits in the Bay area. It doesnt take a liberal to point out that a shotgunner killing turkeys in Golden Gate park is highly unusual. California is full of turkeys and has tons of public land, but you will have to do something to find the turkeys.......Drive! Get out of the city and go to Lake Berryessa, Mendocino National forest, The Sierras, Shasta region, Trinity National forest, or any of the hundreds of thousands of acres of BLM land in northern California. Those turkeys arent going to strut up to your 4th floor apartment so you will have to go get them. The acres available for you to hunt for free number in the millions.

Um OK, first off I don't live in the San Francisco, Silicon Valley does not consist of SF. I also don't have the time to drive 7 hours to where all the BLM land is. The majority is close to the oregon and mexican borders. There isn't much in the middle. I've spent so much time in the Sierra's its not funny and not once have I seen a turkey at those higher elevations. Second I know you can't fire a gun within the city limits. I've taken numerous gun safety classes I know the rules. I was hoping someone would say, "oh ya I've gotten a few birds at the spot on the north end of lake whatever." I'm not asking for someone to shot it for me and bring it cooked to my door. Brick Wall,)

Sorry just got off work at midnight and I'm cranky

Ok, check this out. I am in the military and killed a deer on Beale AFB during a military hunt. It took me 30 minutes to fill my tag and i had to kick turkeys out of the way to get my deer. I saw over 100 turkeys in two hours, when the sun came up, i was in the middle of a 40 bird flock, surrounded by loud gobbling with no turkey permit and a shotgun full of slugs. There is a public hunting area just to the east, i would bet my 870 that there are more than a few fat birds there. As far as the sierras go, stay in the foothills as the birds are thick in the lower elevations now. I have killed birds within 20 minutes of downtown Sacramento.

Re: turkey hunting loacations in california

Sorry this is so late, but I'm new to this site, but I also thought I could share some info for next year...
There are tons of turkeys in California.
Daugherty Hill Wildlife Area, Spenceville Wildlife Area, Tehema Wildlife Area, Mendocino Ntl Forest, up around Almanor. The wildlife areas require a draw for the 1st week of the season, check out the DFG web site.
There are other areas that I'll keep to myself, but a little research on the DFG site and studying maps for BLM land should get you started. Almost anywhere there is foothill land that you can get access to should have birds.
