There are a couple that we suggest.
The Velbon LUXi F which is small, light weight and very field packing friendly, http://www.cameralandny.com/tripods/velbon.pl?page=velbonluxi-f or for use at the range or when you will not be packing with it check out the Promaster SHD Camcorder http://www.cameralandny.com/tripods/promaster.pl?page=promastershdcamcorder

It weights about 2.5 pounds, closes to 18" and will hold a full sized spotter
