Traditions?

In my gourp of hunting companions we have a traditon of getting together and eating a good meal and watching a deer huntin movie the night before season opens then we all get together and watch the Auburn vs Alabama ballgame on opening night after we hunt all day.

Does any body else have an opening day tradition or are we just weird down here in Bama?

I think Billii should get an A+ for creative use of the keyboard.

Bnow, no such thing for me, but what your doing doesn't sound strange. While not related to hunting, the CU/CSU and CU/Huskers games are a pretty big deal here.

To me it sounds really strange... if you're gonna watch a movie to get hyped up watch Rambo!!

We have a similar thing in my family.
Every opening weekend of squirrel season all the men folk in the family get together and make camp on the Apalachacola River. We all hunt, swap stories, introduce the newbies to the tradition of hunting and tell tall tales about how we rule the nest at home.
It all makes for some good shooting practice and to get used to being outdoors in the cold with a firearm.

The annual UF vs FSU game definately brings us all in early from the hunt.

I dont have one for opening day but i do have one for closing night. We all sit around together have diner and talk all about the wildlife we saw and had harvested. Then we talk about past hunts, show pics and enjoy good company.

We all love to hunt and even more we love to share it with our friends and loved ones.

All the guys I hunt with will not shave until they harvest a deer. Some of us get pretty scruffy by the end of the season! I work in a professional environment and have been asked many times to shave, I tell them the reason for my beard and hint that if I get off work early enough to get to the woods my face may look a little cleaner.
This has been a tradition we started about fifteen years ago.

Good Luck!!

Ha Ha that is pretty good Swampy. So what do you do if you don't tag one? Must get pretty mangy going into the next year.

I know programmers that won't shave during a coding project. These pale hairy things basking in the glow of their computer monitors are something to behold.

We are all pretty lucky, we all usually harvest one before the last day of the season.
But for the ones that don't end up with a filled tag usually shave after a week or so after the last season has closed. They get alot of ribbing after they shave but it makes the spouse happy, they are the ones you have to live with!!

ahahha I think that you guys would have some issues with the not shaving till you kill one if suddenly all us girls decided to start doing that. Wink But then again I've always killed at least one usually two animals a year so I wouldn't have to go too long without shaving!! Wink
