Took my nephew

Since I got my elk early and already had taken off work for 2 weeks in Oct. I decided to hunt barbary sheep for a couple of days before my muzzle load deer hunt.  I drove back home to take the meat and my brother agreed to give my nephew permission of take a couple of days off school so we could chase  sheep in an OTC unit and afterwards he could accompany me on my muzzleload deer hunt.

We didn't connect on a sheep but did see one group with a huge ram. My nephew didn't feel comfortable with the shot so we ducked behind some rocks and tried to get closer but when we came out they were gone and we didn't see them again. Finally we went to chase deer. We were watching a fork and I let my nephew talk me into shooting it since last year when I took him we ate tag soup. I really wish he would have been drawn for the youth tag he put in for.

Since he made me shoot the fork I made him carry it back to the vehicle.

Next him learning how to skin.  He ended up skinning only a little bit since we were pressed for time.

unit 34.  The part they made OTC this year.  I got a ram there last year when it was still part of the draw.

They decided to introduce Desert bighorn sheep in that area and need to get rid of the non-native species along with cougars.

I was joking

Groovy:  The secret plan was to have him carry the buck 100 yards then I'd carry him the rest of the way.  Once I offered to carry the buck he did not want to let it go.  I'm sure he showed the pics of him carrying the buck to his girlfiends :D

BTW my dream hunt has always been a costal Brown Bear, but a moose would be up there.

Boy, you are not asking for much are you.  Have you looked at the prices for a brown bear hunt in Alaska lately?  That has also been one of my dreams but I had to realize that unless I win the lottery they are going to be out of my price range.  Now a moose hunt somewhere other than Alaska or the Yukon may be doable since in Alaska you still do not need a guide for them.  But if you want to hire a guide they are in the same price range as the bears are.

my plan for brownies, bou, and Alaskan moose hunting....

Since Alaskan residents do NOT need a guide for anything that lives there, and the tags are a LOT chepaer for residents than non-residents.  My plan is to literally move to Alaska 6 months and 1 day prior to when I buy my licenses, then hunt Brown Bear, Alaskan Moose, and the 5 caribou, and 2 black bear they let you take all in one year Big smile before moving back south!
