A friend and I left work early to hunt. I have a buck archery tag which can only be used in a certain unit and a bow is the only weapon. Archery season goes until 12/31 but it is also rifle season.
I have a doe tag that I can use a rifle and is valid on my friends land so we went out yesterday for a doe.
Got situated behind some big round hay bales at 3:30 pm and within minutes a big big 8 pt buck strolls across the pasture in front of us. Remember, I only can shoot a doe. He hung around for 30 minutes.
Then two smaller bucks came in, hung around for a while and left. There was a lull until 4:45 pm when the two small bucks, another small buck, another big big 8 pt came in. They sparred around a little with one another. Then the big 8pt that was in earlier came back.
They finally dispersed and an old buck with one big antler came in. He was a big old buck. Still no does. Whoever heard of too many bucks
Finally, at 5:17 pm a doe came in and I whacked her. The couple of small bucks that were hanging around didn't spook. Finally they left and I retrieved my doe.
Shot her at 100 yards with my Remington .243, 100 gr Sierra Game King bullets that I reloaded. She went 20 -30 yards. Got the heart and lungs.
You couldn't see the entrance wound and the exit wound was about the size of nickle.
Very fun hunt.

Something about these deer having an internal clock
