I believe they are the toughest animal to hunt. The numbers are not great to begin with and the country you find them in can be unforgiving to say the least. We have not had any luck either; but I have heard of a few kills in Unit 30. I'm headed back up for (4) days and then will hit it again from the 22nd to the end of the hunt. Winter is tough on whitetails, that is an accepted fact.
You can help the quality of your herd by providing winter plots - that are not necessarily designed as kill plots.
Having what I call green plots - that the deer can browse in when most of the other food is gone, can greatly benefit the deer herd when they need it most.
