Those Pesky, Pesky Deer Dogs

Jeezz...I go to work and get home and see this !!! Laugh

Anymore post that contain personal threats against anyone on this forum(or their animals) will be summarily deleted.

Very touchy subject and I have seen these landowner-dog hunter confrontations turn into ARMED confrontations which resulted in the State of Florida passing their laws.
We, the members of this forum, can and should be able to have a healthy debate without all the name calling and threats.

No true sportsman would be involved in a deer drive on private property without the owners permission. With or without dogs.

Folks please pardon if it seems that I was ranting (no I havnt been told I was) but this is one of them subjects that gets my cackles up in a tizzy real quick like. When someone says just shoot the dogs I just wanna load up and educate them on that subject.

Tesoronut, If you want to catch those dogs it may be a little difficult. Runners tend to be "one master" dogs and not listen to anyone but their trainer/feeder. BUT heres a trick that might work. Get yourself a whistle (coaches whistle) and when you hear then coming, drop to one knee and hit that whistle with 2 sharp quick blasts. The try to coax them to you with commands such as "here" loudly. take a rope lead out with you and just hookum all up on it. LoL If they are walker dogs, there is a reason they call them walkers, you dont walk them THEY WALK YOU Laugh Laugh Very strong dogs so be prepared to reign them in. I personaly would just go for one and take it back to the house. Then call the Game warden, tell them that this has been an ongoing problem and you want it stopped. Then when the Game warden gets to your place you 2 call the owners number (if they are legal they will have a contact # on the collar) and tell them you have one of his dogs. Once you are all together, hopfully the warden will do his job and instruct them not to release the animals on your property again. If not and you catch them again then just catch the dogs, call animal control and then file a court case. Once they have been warned by the game commission they do NOT have legal rights to be on your property then you have a legal presidence to file an injunction against them. I know its a lot of BS to have to go through. But with the way that your laws are set up its about the only LEGAL way that this can be solved. Hope this helps you. Again my apologies for the strong words but they were necessary against unethical and illegal actions that were being spoken of.

Thanks, Cam. That whistle idea may be the only trick I haven't tried. I'm going to try it out.......

Just a notation. This year, I'm trying to keep notes on how many days deer dogs are unwelcome guests on my farm. I have to work most days, either 7-3, or 200-1000pm. So I'm gone alot. My notes reflect only the times that I am off and at home to take these notes. So, in reality, these invasions are under-represented. Since Nov. 17th, through yesterday(22nd), 3 days have had deer dogs on my land(that I know about). Anyway, good luck to all you hunters out there.
