Hey Just wondering if anybody has fired any of the new Thompson 28" barrels, just wondering how they shoot? was thinking about buying one in the 338 for Moose. Have a 7mm, 22-250 and .223 in the 26". Love the gun!!!
i tried one last fall man. there the same as the 26" no difference i didnt find anyways
just curious stewart66 which part of nb you from?
WOW, a 338 Win Mag, you must like recoil!
I have a 308 for the Encore and even that has a pretty good punch even with the Sims vibration pad on the buttstock. And I am not a small man either!! Anyway, have not tried the 28 inch barrel and dont see any benefit in it either. Should be just fine with a 26 inch unless fluted barrel is what you are looking for which I believe is what is promised for the pro-hunter line of encore. The 7mm should be fine for any moose especially with a good 175 grain bullet like a barnes x-series. And of course shot placement. I too love my encore and it is definitely fun to shoot and is very accurate. I read an interesting article once in Peterson's Hunting on barrel length and they are now leaning toward shorter stiffer barrels as the standard for accuracy and bullet performance. The reason they gave was that today's powders are such clean, fast burning that the longer barrel length is not needed to burn powder in order to maintain velocity as it was once in the past. They also stated that longer barrels have a tendency to have more barrel vibration thus affecting accuracy. Just what I read. Let me know how big of a bruise that 338 inflicts!! LOL.
Hey Huntnfish, thanks for the input, i didnt find my 7mm punched to bad, put liek u said im not a real small boy, haha, but had a lot of friends try it out and they said the same thing. I think i just want something like the 338 for the big bang, never had anything bigger then the 7mm, and barrels being as cheap, would really just like to have one!! wouldnt be something i would be shooting daily at the range or anything but....I will take pictures of my shoulder after site in day!!
wonsky Im in the Miramichi, Sunny Corner area actually, i know you???
yes we probably know each other. i'm in newcastle ![]()
Hey Wonksy sent a pm
Those are single shooting rifles right?
Those are single shooting rifles right?
Yes they are. I don't use them but I believe they are break action with an exposed hammer. Similar in design to the Handi-Rifle.
Tried one in 7mm rem mag. couldnt get it to shoot for nothing. traded it and bought a Ruger #1 in 300wby instead.
they work beautiful everyone around here is buying them. only draw they got is there only single shot ![]()
