My planning is rather boring to some I guess. As I tend to hunt the same areas year to year and do not hunt out of state. I do build up points for elk as I am looking to hunt unit 40 for a first rifle season hunt.

This time of year I like to get out and chase bunnys and predators. I also am waiting for antlers to start dropping. I do like finding sheds but for some reason I tend to find more while I am hunting.

I spent the last month trying to decide what units and seasons to apply for to avoid interference with a deer trip to Indiana and a deer/hog trip to Georgia. And after not picking up a bow in the last 15 years, I bought one yesterday so I'll be spending as much time as possible shooting so I can use it in the fall.

While I'd love to apply to every state for an elk and/or deer hunt, plus Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire moose, I'm still trying to figure out whether or not I'm going to be able to afford any out of state hunts this year. With my goal of trying to take a deer in every state going slower than I'd like it to, I need to at least try a few new ones this year.

Well, like Elkkill this is predator season for me and keeps the excitement level high, as well as the shooting skills. I keep reloading and range shooting quite often as well. The last five years or more years have been primarily muzzleloading for elk and deer, but this year I'm eighty percent sure rifle is going to be the early rifle elk only with the new 30-06 and then a later Nov. deer rifle private property only if I can't draw a regular tag and a doe antelope tag as I don't yet have the points for a buck tag again. I've got access this year for elk on good private land that runs into public which is locked for access. I know two guys who got big bulls in this area this year so I'm thinking it's going to be a good horseback hunt.

Gulp ... with early and late elk seasons, spring and fall turkey, and depredation hunts (oh, and fowl and upland birds), the normal annual cycle of wait, apply, wait, hunt, wait or hunt birds ... is definitely blasted. My wife (and I) used to count on a few months where I wouldn't be hunting. Now I am seriously distracted (from the rest of life) (nearly) all year long.

Hey! That reminds me... I've got a youth elk hunt this weekend up at the scout ranch outside of Red Feather Lakes. Should be interesting.

I also have a cow hunt starting on Friday with some family members should be a good time went to the spot today to locate the furry critter and of course I found em so hopefully we tag out on friday!
