Test.......You tell me

Okay, now I am worried about people finding my hunting spot by posting photos.  You tell me, can any of you tech guys find an imbedded GPS tag or anything in this photo, and tell me where it was taken?

If so, just post "yes", and PM me the coordinates.  I don't want to share it with everyone..... Wink

Hmmmm.   Actually

Hmmmm.  Confused

Actually with this sudden concern about people finding yor hunting spot I'm beginning to wonder about all those stories of not getting anything for the last ten years. Whistling

Nope, not just stories, but

lol

Nope, not just stories, but the truth.  I am more worried because I hunt in a spot that someone else showed me, and if I do happen to get one, I don't want people showing up there out of the blue.

But, like you said, it's been 10 years.  Maybe I am putting the cart before the horse... Wink

Expatriate is correct.

Expatriate is correct. Anybody that downloads that photo, then right clicks the file and selects properties (and then the details tab) will see the GPS coordinates. They'll be able to find those pretty flowers!!  Big smile

However, (at least in Windows) when you are in the image's properties screen, it allows you to delete all personal info, and I'm assuming that would include the GPS coordinates. So you could save the original file for yourself and have a record of the GPS settings, but delete and upload the "cleaned" version.

So you would not be able to upload directly from your Droid if you have the GPS turned on. You would need to download the images to your PC and "clean" them before sharing online.

I don't think it's that simple, Cowgal.  The coordinates are embedded metadata.  I didn't see coordinates on the photo properties, but other programs can get to it.

I tried a couple photos taken with my droid with the GPS turned off, and it showed a location in Kansas, which is nowhere near where I was.  Maybe I need to try another one with the GPS on.

coordinates

I did see coordinates and other info about the photo, like what it was taken with, the Droid. Would you like me to PM you a screen capture of the data? I'll also make a copy and "clean" the photo and then see if anything is still visible.

Photos can be stripped of their metadata. I suppose the info could be somehow resurrected, just like there are professionals that can make deleted content on a computer come back to life.

I have a Droid as well, will check my own photos too. Just checked, I have GPS off on my photos and it lists coordinates - in China!!

Must be a difference in operating system.  I'm on my Mac right now and didn't see the GPS coordinates when I pulled up properties on preview, even though I could see other camera data.  There are other options out there, though, and I still got there.  Just in a different way.

Argh!  Okay, gotta figure

Argh!  Okay, gotta figure this out.

I just replied to you ExP.  You are in the right city, about a mile off.  If it stays that general, then I am okay with it.  However, Let me plug in your coordinates to Google Earth and see.

Gotta figure this out.....

GPS off

Went back and double-checked my photos, and came up with almost the exact location they were taken at. I had the GPS OFF on all my photos.
