My buddy and I are looking to go out to Terry to do a goat hunt this fall. Any info on the area? Were probably going to hit up the Block Mang land 2 huge chunks over 150,000 acres but any other info would be great. Thanks
I can help a little...
Small town on the Yellowstone. The Block Management land out there is excellent for antelope and pretty good for deer.
The coolest place no one has ever heard of is called the Terry Badlands, just north of the River, west of of town. All BLM. Shot my first mule deer buck out there on a crazy windy day. No antelope in those badlands, but plenty of deer.
There is an old hotel in town, cheap prices, full of hunters to wake you up in the morning on those old hardwood floors. A bar right across the street. I think there may even be a small motel or two at the edge of twon
When calling coyotes, more often than not they will circle on a target they are
coming into and approach from the downwind side. Presumably they do this in
order to align what they smell, with what they are hearing.
This means that you should always have your downwind side camouflaged and have
an open shooting lane. If the area is heavily covered the coyote could come in
take a look and be gone, with you none the wiser.
