Tell me if I am wrong

I come home from the gym to find the prospective cleaning lady's car in the driveway. It has an Obama/Biden sticker in the window, a member of the Christian left bumper sticker and a BUSHit bumper sticker.

I come in and my wife introduces me. I shake her hand but am cold, fighting the urge to say no we're not going to hire her, but know my will kill me if I do.

My wife thinks that I am terrible that I was cold to the woman who she describes as delightful. I am sure she is, but my point to my wife is that I found her bumper sticker towards Bush offensive, vulgar and disrespectful.

I also pointed out that she would not advise our daughter to discuss politics with a prospective employer.

Frankly, I don't care what your politics are except don't come into my driveway with a bumper sticker that mocks the Christian right and the former president of the United States and expect me to embrace you.

So was I wrong?

No you're not wrong.

Anyone who publicizes thrir politics has to be ready for some rough spots.

That said, most bumper sticker types shouldn't be take too seriously. Anyone left or right who starts political discussions with me I usually just smile and nod my head without trying to encourage them. They're often like people who ascribe nutty unscientific attributes to diet or vitamins or immunizations.

Doesn't sound like she was mocking your religion as much as stating her own. Lots of very strongly religious lefties.

You should also understand that most Americans, indeed most of the world, hold pretty strong negative views of our former Prez.

Sounds like you married up.

I don't view Bush favorably, but I think there is line that shouldn't be crossed. Dissent, disagreement, vocal or written criticism are fine, but vulgarity is low class and mean spirited and offensive.

sticker

There would be no Obama bumper sticker in my driveway and no wife who thought it was o.k. in my house. there would be NO exceptions. you were way to nice.

You weren't wrong CVC. In fact, I go one step further and do NOT do business with anyone that is openly liberal. I do not ask what a business's party affiliation is, HOWEVER if they publicize it and are actively promoting beliefs I disagree with, I will not give them my business.

Pangolin, your remark about CVC having married up is stupid. You display the same arrogance I see in most dems.

It's simple. You're looking to hire someone to come into your home and have full access to you, your family, and your belongings. If you feel her beliefs are incompatible with yours to the point that you don't feel comfortable with her in your home, you're justified to not hire her.

What do you think your chances would be of getting hired by a liberal if you showed up wearing an NRA hat and a Bush/Cheney T-shirt?

Redrider - I have quickly realized I am not in Kansas anymore. Big smile

I did ask my wife what the cleaning lady's reaction was to my antelope mount? She said she didn't have one. We'll see how she reacts when I hang more dead animal heads on the wall.

I wouldn't want a car with bumper stickers like that on my driveway or parked in front of my house. Never.

That cleaning lady needs a lesson in interviewing. You don't show up to an interview letting all types thing that could be offensive to your potential employer show through.

Just one more reason why when something needs to be done or fixed in and around my house I do it myself. I just don't want other people (non family) in my home when I'm not there. That's just me.

I believe to each his or her own. Having said that I also believe politics have no place in the work place. If your place of business includes travel in a personal vehicle it should be free of any stickers or slogans. Right left or middle.
