Survey: American Made Products

I am relatively new to the site, and am curious if others feel the way I do concerning American Made products. So I thought I would post a little survey. I was originally from the Midwest and now live in Texas. American Made products have always been a source of pride for me (and my family), and I go out of my way to purchase products made here. So here go's.

1.Do you think it is important to purchase products that are made in the USA?

2.Why do you think more people don't purchase American Made Products?

3.For Equivilant products would you prefer to purchase products that are Made in America?

4.Would you be willing to pay 10% more for products Made in America?

5.Do you think that purchasing products that are Made in USA, helps support/create American jobs?

Thanks for your time, and let me know what you think?

American made products aren't what they once were. They're over-priced and over-rated. GM is no longer the Big No. 1. Toyota is. I always liked Craftsman tools so the other day I bought a Craftsman compound miter saw. Got it home and you guessed it. Made in China sticker on it.

GM's and Ford both have factories in Canada. I'm sure there's Toyota, Hyundai and others as well. Some GM and Ford engines are made by J.A.Pan and company too but assembled in the States. I don't question the technology, just the extravagance of the design and subsequent costs for repairs. A friggin brake job on a GM or Chevy pickup can run you $1400 and tires for a Dodge Dakota are special order. Theres no need for that after springing $40,000 for a new pickup.

No.

More people than what? America consumes more and exports more than any other country in the world. Our products are selling everywhere.

If they are absolutely equivalent in every way I would probably buy American over foreign. I buy the best product for the best price and if that's American, great. If not, then the American producers need to work harder before they'll get my business.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! I don't encourage mediocrity.

I know with absolute certainty that it does not.

True, American made products are not nearly what they used to be. In fact Made In USA does not mean it was made by Americans.

If it's a great product of great quality and equivently priced, then yes I will buy American over something else foreign made or imported. I don't agree that paying 10% more for an American made product encourages mediocrity. Not sure what was meant by that statement eye roll Some USA made products are worth seeking out and paying for, and some are not. It depends on what it is you are buying and what it's end use will be.

We just don't manufacture nearly enough stuff here as we used to. Foreign manufacture and importation has made it too cost prohibitive for USA companies to continue production of certain products here. I don't like it, but that's the way it is.

It doesn't matter if we demand American made or not. Corporations care about one thing only and that is making as much profit as the market will bare. If that means cutting corners and outsourcing, or using cheap immigrant labor then that's exactly what they will do.

All I know is that if jobs aren't kept here for Americans, then one day our children or grandchildren will be forced to immigrate to other countries in order to have a job.
