After 18 years of putting in for a trophy area here in Colorado , I think I am happy with the Elk I took! My Buddy shot his Bull on Sunday eve. and I held out until Thursday eve. This bull was with a 7 by 7, but I liked my bulls mass! He broke his Brow and had a dropper broke down by the base on the right side!!! We had fun seeing so many good bulls and I came face to face with a big kitty at 40 feet! Awesome time!!!!!!

Both animals are incredible!
Both animals are incredible! Congrats! Having the patience to build up the preference points for a trophy unit is impressive, and then to fill the tag with such amazing animals is icing on the cake!

I'm sure that you have mentioned it before but what unit were you hunting? I'm planning on burning my 17 resident points next year and am starting my planning already.

The Bosque del Oso SWA in unit 851. It is a special place! Believe it or not, it is a place where big bulls come to rest after the rutt!! Saw 70 bulls and 3 Cows!!! Friday, before the Opener, saw 23 bulls, 15 were 300 class and 5 were 330 or better and I never left the road! Learned that it is surrounded by over 1 million acres of private ground, from North of Santa Fe all the way up! Biologist said Bulls have traveled from NM and have made it to the Bosque in 4 days! Bulls leave the Bosque in August in search of girlfriends and are pretty much gone until mid October, when they start to trickle back in! Some hunt it the wrong way in my opinion and do not see much! If you draw, do not go burning through the countryside! All that happens is that you bugger up the area and it is thick and you never see very many! Walk the gas roads, some you can drive to and gain elev. and glass the bulls coming up from feeding and watering before they bed. Hunted 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the evening, that is it!!

Thanks everyone!!! Yes SoCoKhntr, very Beautiful and chalked full of so many different animals. Saw a few Bobcats, Mtn. Lion, Turkeys, and some very small deer fawns that looked as if were born in August! Even seen 4 Whitetails. We were going to stay in one of my wall tents and camp at the property, but last minute we got a great deal on a Cabinette in Stonewall, where we met some great people from Miss, Florida. We also met several youth hunters that were hunting Cows on RFW properties nearby!! They had a ball for sure as most of them were seeing 300 Cows daily and filling their tags! Their smiles said it all!!!!

Congratulations on a great
Congratulations on a great hunt and two great bulls. I am sure running into the big kitty got your blood pumping! That area is known for producing so big bulls and bears but takes a long time to draw either tag. Great photos and thanks for sharing.
