Struck out on Javelina

Boy is this hard to admit. I didn't get my javelina this year and neither did my hunting partner. We went into our usual area and didn't see a single pig in 8 days of hunting. This is so unusual that we were wondering if we were really there and not just dreaming. We usually drive the washes and look for track and then head up on the hill to find the heard and set up a stalk. But not this year. We did find a few tracks but nothing paned out. We went high to glass with spotting scopes and still nothing. We headed into our most prized areas but still nothing. It was like a space ship showed up and took them all away. We did see deer both whitetail and mule, also a bobcat and a fox and a couple of coyotes but no pigs. There was a lion outfitter in the area and he was driving the washes every day looking for cat tracks. He would drive up the wash nice and slow and then head back to his camp at top speed. This along with him running some dogs when he did get on a track and a kid that I believe was training for the Daytona 500 may of been the reason that the pigs moved out of the area but that is just a guess. Even a friend that has hunted deer in that area for 30 years couldn't believe it.

So after 16 straight years of finding pigs and taking our time to harvest a real keeper I have struck out. Now I can't wait until next year to get my revenge.

Re: Struck out on Javelina

We were in 37b witch is north of Oracle. Where we hunt it is rather hilly with lots of side draws for them to lie down in and get out of the weather and It is usually no problem finding them and then finding one to shoot except for this year. The weather may of even played a part in it. Between the rain and cold but who knows. The people in town were joking that they all moved into town for the winter and wanted us to take a couple of them. Anyway like I said there is always next year. My main reason for this post is to let people know that even hunters that know the area and have had great success sometimes have to come off of the hill disappointed in finding their prey but never in the hunting itself.
